I was wondering what people thought and what their experiences of things they have kept & / or thrown away for Christian reasons. And why did you keep/throw away?

I threw away my Christmas tree, wreath, st. nick ornaments etc.....when I learned the pagan roots of Christmas and what all the wreath and tree symbolize along with the yule log etc.......Dec. 25 is not Jesus birthday but the birthday of the pagan god tamuz (the son of nimrod and semiramis)........the same nimrod in the Bible and also in Jeremiah it talks of people putting ornaments on trees as a pagan ritual for baal worshipers.....I am not condemning anyone and don't want a debate about Christmas but this was a recent conviction a few years ago and these are the reasons for my convictions....take it or leave it :D I don't celebrate Christmas anymore and no my walk with God is still fine despite it :)

This comes to mind:

I asked God for all things that I might enjoy life..."
God said, "Rather, I will give you life so that you may enjoy all things."

"
I asked God to give me wisdom…"
God said, "Rather, I will give you problems to solve so you may become wise."

"
I asked God to give me strength…"
God said, "Rather, I will give you difficulties to make you strong."

"
I asked God to give me courage…"
God said, "Rather, I will give you danger to overcome."

"
I asked God to give me prosperity…"
God said, "Rather, I will reward you with the fruits of your labor."

"
I asked God to take away my pain…"
God said, "Rather, It is not for me to take it away, but for you to give it up."

"
I asked God to spare me pain..."
God said, "Rather, Suffering draws you apart from worldly cares and draws you closer to me."

"
I asked God to make my handicapped child whole…"
God said, "Rather, the child's spirit is whole, and it's body is only temporary."

"
I asked God to grant me patience…"
God said, "Rather, patience isn't granted, it's learned through tribulation."

"
I asked God to give me happiness..."
God said, "Rather, I give you blessings. Happiness is up to you."

"
I asked God to give me favors…"
God said, "Rather, I will give you choices."

"
I asked God to make my spirit grow... "
God said, "Rather, your faith will give you growth, and I will prune you to make you fruitful."

"
I asked God to give me love..."
God said, "Rather, I will send to you those in need for you to give your love to."

"
I asked God to help me love others, as much as He loves me... "
God said, "Now you understand! Your love will shine thr
ough as you fulfil My Law."

I try to live by this rule of GUTS:

Give it away,
Use it,
Throw it away, or,
Sell it.

I try and get rid of anything I haven't used in the past year...either trash or donation depending of the condition of the item, but I still have "Craft projects" that need attention: sewing, painting, scrapbook, etc.....not really "Christian reasons" I want to buy less as well because I believe we should live with what God has blessed us with and share with those around us. We are to be wise stewards of our God given blessings.

Also I got rid of any books or items I wouldn't want my kids finding upon my death...my father passed in March and we had to go through his things.

Now i look at my mess and want to clean it up so others don't have to deal with it if I were to pass to be with our Lord.
