Lightbulb Video Games Safe and Not Safe for Children

Hi have apsolutly nothing against most video games in general. I collect every single type of video game from mature rating to everyone rating. I personally believe that as long as a video game has no effect on you towards you relationship with God, and your mature enough not to do violent and criminal things in real life there OK to have.

First and foremost, lets talk about children safe video games. That are vary fun, at least for myself. first I recommend most sports video games. A lot of people don't like sports games but I apsolutly love them. and i highly recommend any kind of sports game excluding hunting for kids and teens of all ages. Puzzle games are good but I don't play them as often. Bible games sound like fun, but I never tried any. I don't like trivia or casino games I think their boring for most people. Simulation games like the sims are fun and contain apsolutly no blood. In fact a lot of older video games like Atari or Nintendo Entertainment System or Super Nintendo/Famicom or Nintendo 64 or PlayStation 1 games are great for bible friendly opinions because a lot of those contain no criminal or violence scenes

A personal opinion about kids playing video game in general.
If they are children who misbehave or disobey their parents in any way because of video games they should not play those kind of video games. Lets use the Grand Theft Auto series for example. I don't see what the hype is about that game I played some of it, and don't like it and It does teach people how to do crime around their cities. in which I find is one game I'd like to call an anti Christian video game

Now the guitar hero series I don't see what is wrong with that video game, but I know some Christians are against that game due to it having all types of Rock music I however am not that kind of believer.

I know there as some verses I read in the bible that revolt against violence and that good in all but I did some research and found some other verses like if you google What deps the bible say about video games and it actually is thought to approves on some verses saying that they are meant to be enjoyed however violence is not included as acceptable

Everyone is entitled to their own opinon I hope to hear others thought on what I just posted and God Bless you and have a great night or day.

Gta 5 is a game I have played a bit but I never got into it my friend plays it and we were playing it together and he said it makes him want to rob a bank.

Games can have an effect on people even 20 year olds like my friend. I miss guitar hero I need to get that game again

There's definitely games not safe for children & GTA is one of them. I used to play it & idk how many times I logged on GTA online & heard children raging & sometimes cursing at eachother. Call of duty is another popular one i wouldn't recommend for kids. My personal favorite growing up was the Sonic The Hedgehog series for the Genesis. I still enjoy playing it to this day. I wasn't really a fan of Guitar hero but i loved DJ Hero. Sports & fighting games like Tekken I can play but I can't play violent games like I used to my spirit won't allow it.

Romans 10:13 - For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Acts 3:19 - Repent therefore and turn to God, so that your sins may be blotted out, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.
Ephesians 6:11 - Put on the whole armor of God, so that you can stand firm against the schemes of the devil.

So if I ask the obvious question of why does this subject even come up what answer do I receive? From a Christian perspective would our time not be far better invested in bible study verses the mind numbing effects of video games?

I always admonished my children that video games rot the brain.

Lol I think it is a generational thing and now this generation is having kids and questions over their ancient toys. I imagine it is not much different from their parents' inner turmoil on whether or not the hula hoops and barbies were too risqué and enflaming of the passions to pass on to their children.

If I had to venture a guess the next generation will find the video games of yonder years likewise as lame and a new fad shall be born.

May I ask you, is bible study all you do in your spare time? Or is there other hobbies you do when you have time?

Id disagree with you there : p I mean, television and movies have been popular throughout generations, longer than video games have. I dont think video games are going anywhere, haha.

Who is to say you cannot do both? I mean I study the bible and constantly seek to know God and to grow closer to him but I play video games as well mainly pokemon. I mean if we are talking about why do that kind of numb minding stuff instead of reading the bible then we have to consider that watching t.v. is same thing or watching videos for that matter in fact being on your phone does this as well as even the most simple of cell phones sends of the tiniest radiation that we expose ourselves to every time we look at it

Heh you might have a point indeed. Though look how we have seen 3D TV/movies emerge. Now they have virtual reality headsets also. By the outlook of progression our toys will become obsolete before our faces, and all ready they are going that way. By the way of annihilation, who knows when the next Dark Ages are waiting?

Some video games are ok but discernment needs to be used.

My cousin (non Christian) has spent years playing the most awful games
like resident evil, silent hill (awful game I've seen it at his house its demonic).
Zombie games, lots of war games, vampire games etc.

Now he is one of the most damaged people I know, he has severe agoraphobia,
severe anxiety attacks, he shouts swears and gets panicky at the slightest thing.

I am positive that in playing some of these games that he had opened himself up to
    the demonic.

He once told me he had a dream in which he was in the living room and a large snake
was circling around and around the walls. I told him this was the source of his
agrophobia but he didn't believe me.

I actually somewhat recently watched a video about a kid who played retro games, and by retro I mean Atari and NES : p

The changing of technology will definitely lead to older things becoming obsolete, but even when they do, people still enjoy having the old things around to come back to every now and then : p I wouldnt be surprised if normal gaming, as in sitting looking at a screen with a controller of some type, will disappear forever one day and replaced with a new technology, definitely.

Lol I had Silent Hill, the first one. I remember when I first played it I was in 4th grade and I thought it was super scary and super cool graphics. Then in highschool I dug it out and started playing it again and I could hardly even maneuver on it lol, it was like all blocky and terrible. I thought to myself, how the heck was I scared of this as a kid? Lol I couldn't even finish it.

I definitely like the retro games a lot more, Atari, snes, ps1. Then again I am poor so I don't exactly have a xbox one or playstation 4 (or are we up to 5? I lost count after ps2).

I see what you mean. I could definitely see the virtual reality stuff taking hold if it gets cheaper. Never tried it myself but I hear positive reviews from those that have. Idk if I could get into it though because of my eyes. I reckon it is probably like the 3D movies. I saw one 3D movie, The Hobbit, and it definitely was cool but it messed with my eyes and gave me a raging headache so I never bothered with them again.

Some of these retro games were hypnotic. Lol

Do you remember playing tennis where you moved an oblong block up and down
your side of the screen, trying to hit a little square into your opponents side of
    the screen.

Just three blocks on a screen and we all played for hours. Lol

Yes I'm guessing you've played or heard of one of the vary first video games ever made called PONG, I love that game I have played it many times. I collect old games just to play them. There are quite a few versions of PONG out their including a PlayStation 1 remake in which I own.

I read somewhere it was not until an early 1980's game that I own by the way, that was a space shooting game that if you were not fast enough to shoot the other spaceships a cartoon earth would blow up.

And that was the vary first game the masses regarded it as too much violence in a video game. I don't remember what the game is called I have too many games I guess. But I listen to music mostly to relax my mind.

I don't read the bible much, but I always keep my mind on God I always pray constantly when I hear ringing in my ears. In spite of me not reading the bible every day, I do remember giant majority of the bible learned in church in my past, I never lose focus on God. I can't

I run a christian Facebook page and almost 20,000 people are counting on me to learn scripture from. I;m sick so and always seek God I have a good memory. And I keep scripture inside of me in my sub conscious.

I was lucky to be born with a good memory that I always listen in church for something new and read the bible on occasion. My relative says you can't just read the bible once and be done, you have to keep going back and reading things over, I have a vary close relationship with God God means more to me then anything.

I found out if you have a close enough relationship to God, He will make it easier on you and if you can seek his voice he'll talk to you and remind you of even scripture that you do not know currently. Sometimes God will tell you to stop doing something and it is for your own good, so listen.

remember to resist temptation of wrong doing

Im also into the retro stuff : p I have a N64, Gamecube, PS2, Original Xbox, Dreamcast and a Wii.
(The Wii is a great console btw, totally not worth the hate it gets)

Im mostly poor, like I could get a newer console if I saved up for a bit, but Im just not that interested : p I like older games, I occasionally pick one up from our used game store for like ten bucks every now and then and I have fun with them, haha. Dont feel a need for any of the current stuff.

And Im not big on the VR stuff : p I was fine with having a controller in my hand looking at the screen, I dont want to have to wear a big helmet on my head to play a game : p I always figured the VR stuff was just a gimmick, like motion control and junk. But dunno, will have to wait and see what the future holds : p

Yea I sold most my systems off at this point. Still have an xbox 360, but I only have Skyrim for it. I haven't touched it in months though, so I'll probably sell that off pretty soon also. I figure I'll let the winter pass by first just in case the mood takes me to slay some dragons and pagan argonians.

I used to have a snes, n64 (but I only ever had Mario kart for it), ps1, ps2, and xbox. When I had the ps2 i'd buy used games for like 10-15 bucks, play them til I was sick of them then just go sell them right back to the used game store. I thought of it as an extended rental. I parted with that system last, my friend Dan was in sore want of a system so I gave it to him. He insisted on paying me 50 bucks for it even though I offered to simply give it to him because he is my friend and he was in need, so when he wasn't looking I pulled a Joseph and put the money back inside of it.

I've really cut back on gaming anymore these days. I still do a lil PC gaming, my cousin set me up with a Steam account and some games on there. I have a fair lil library to pick from, but I mostly only play Age of Empires 2.

    Perhaps
its just a personal thing. When pakman was new and other games too were introduced,my classmates (and intelligent ones too) flocked to the games and had a lot of fun. That is up to them. But me i didnt bother to look or try, and in some way i think it is a good thing. I can imagine myself playing then and having worse eye problems now, or idk... In truth i am not able to do so now either, but i still much prefer active or more healthy games if i could. When they were small, we allowed some of our kids to dabble in simple, educational, 'safe' games, but now i esp observed at least one has moved on to games i am afraid to see or hear the sounds of (others may laugh, for i am not very brave after all like when hearing ugly sound games in dota, for example, i just hate it). While the others have some sort of sports, this young man seems to shun most, although he has to attend his physical ed classes. I believe he would be more healthy physically and spiritually too if he wasnt introduced early, or didnt get hooked on online games. And honestly, did people notice how many more children wear eyeglasses now while still young?
