Just appalling. And shame on all of those who listen to this kind of lite, trite sermons, and somehow think they are being fed. It breaks my heart to see JO's advocates in this thread, who are being deceived in the worst way possible.

I don't believe your heart is broken

If it were, you would be on your knees begging God for people and not smart mouthing people here

Who died and made you queen of everyone?

The Lakewood church service this morning was terrific.
I could talk about a lot because there was a lot of good to talk about.
The praise and worship of Jesus was terrific.
The African missionaries was a delight.
Joel's sermon was excellent.
It certainly gives me something to think about in my own life.
Conviction.
And his 2 altar calls are always a delight to see.
Sometimes I was smiling, a couple of times I was almost crying with joy.
I do hope some of you chose to watch it, even if just out of curiosity.
I know you would come away from it feeling better about yourself and life itself.

well, that is not so

I found his site and bookmarked it before you provided a link and have been finding out more about the man

he is more than what the judge's here have to say about him
Well, it kind of DOES seem like no one is willing to watch the full sermons if people keep it a bit of a secret they are doing so, and about all we ever hear about is the Larry King interview.

So, what have you found out about the man?

seems subjective. Is he causing people to reject the gospel? If a person is saved and is edified by what he says, are they harmed? Or maybe his existence is causing believers to enter a state of condemnation, which may be the more corrosive outcome...

Joel Osteen is a false teacher. Goodness sake... No wonder the church is in so much turmoil.
Yea but if people want to listen to him that's their choice. If they end up deceived that's on them.

Oh really?
Guess what?
You don't concern me at all.
Oh, I believe you, really I do. It seems nothing else concerns you but advertising Joel Osteen as if he's some Messiah!

Sockpuppet much?

Deceived about what?

What is he saying that is deceiving?

This thread IS about the Lakewood Church!

We all know the Messiah is not on TV!

I don't get it.

What is a false teacher?
Biblically it means someone who teaches heresy.
Like, for instance, they teach that Jesus was a nice prophet, but not God.

So, is Joel a false teacher because he doesn't preach the way you would want him to?
I don't know any preacher that's just right.
They're all lacking.

I believe the important thing is not so much that they may not say everything you would like them to,
but that they don't say INCORRECT doctrine.

There's a big difference between JO and Word of Faith pastors.
They tell you to buy oil, they tell you to buy pieces of cloth, sand,
They tell you to plant seeds and that you'll get money for it.
They tell you that if you give, God will give you back threefold (or is it 10?)

JO is very positive. But he does not promise God will answer all your prayers. He
says that we should look to God for everything and try to live positively. Is this wrong?
Does God desire us to have a miserable life?

I believe God wants us to be healthy and prosper. That doesn't mean we'll be healthy or rich.
But I also don't believe He would want us to be sick and poverty stricken. I believe this is the work of satan

JO is saying that we should not give the victory to satan.
There is a big difference between Osteen & the other WOF preachers.

Osteen is very positive. His book he wrote is Your Best Life Now: The Power of Positive Thinking
Positive thinking is a false doctrine made popular by Norman Vincent Peale. False teachers such as Robert Schuller teach it.

Positive thinking teaches that you have to change your way of thinking to be what you want to be. The individual has to do it all. It's a neatly wrapped up box of self righteous works doctrine.

Wow, I'm blown away at you hypergracers in here loving on the guy when you spout off about being against works & self righteousness all the time..... especially you, G777.

Is it safe to reply?

Well, it turns out they have all kinds of ministries going on and seem to really want to reach people for Christ.

I did read their faith statement, what they believe and nothing there I would disagree with but we all say what we believe but living it might be different, but you have to start somewhere

The Bible

We believe the entire Bible is inspired by God, without error and the authority on which we base our faith, conduct and doctrine.
The Trinity

We believe in one God who exists in three distinct persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came to this earth as Savior of the world.
Salvation

We believe Jesus died on the cross and shed His blood for our sins. We believe that salvation is found by placing our faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross. We believe Jesus rose from the dead and is coming again.
Water Baptism

We believe water baptism is a symbol of the cleansing power of the blood of Christ and a testimony to our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Communion

We believe in the regular taking of Communion as an act of remembering what the Lord Jesus did for us on the cross.
Growing Relationship

We believe every believer should be in a growing relationship with Jesus by obeying God's Word, yielding to the Holy Spirit and by being conformed to the image of Christ.

Hi Willie

I used to watch JO more some years ago.

Here I only see one hour of it.
Some praise music.
Then Victoria speaks for about 10 minutes.
She's very good too.
JO speaks for about 30 minutes and then gives an altar call with the persons standing at their place.

I think new Christians would tend to like him. He's not condeming and radiates the love of God.

Maybe more mature Christians could listen to more different types of preaching because they can take pretty much anything,
But it could be a real turn-off to some to hear about hell fire and brimstone.

I believe that when Jesus told the Apostles to preach and baptize in Mathew 28:19, He meant to preach the good news.
That man's sin and sins have been paid for and He opened the gates of heaven for us.

That He came to give us an abundant life because it's far better when we follow His ways.
He also said to go and sin no more but we know we shouldn't sin and it's not necessary to hear this every week.

I like Philippians 4:8.

I believe his preaching follows this concept.
Not at home.
Maybe you could post it if you agree with me?

They also have all kinds of different speakers. Seems they offer something for eveyone like they say they do.

I'm disappointed in the personal attacks that seem to be occurring in this thread and in others here.

It makes discussion difficult when people are acting like brats when they should be adults.

I think it's very subjective and for some it also appears personal. It's as though they cannot stand the reality of not being able to control what others do or think or believe.

Life goes on beyond the borders of this or any other forum. Maybe they forget that.

I don't see what you see. What I do see, is you thinking you have the keys to heaven. You don't.

At this point, since it seems to be a buzz word for you, please describe sound doctrine.

Where is the love for the heart and soul of the sinner living a sinful lifestyle? That would be the one beating in the chest of Jesus. The rest of us are just facsimiles and the ones making the most noise are the ones who still don't have decent copy drawn up.

Will there be different lines at the gates of heaven? will we have the "Lord Lord I did miracles in your name line?" and the "I corrected everyone preaching different than I do Jesus line?"

My head spins when I take a look at what is 'out there' and every one thinking they are the way, the truth and the life.

I bet there will be Jews and Mormons in heaven and real good Christians kept out of heaven. Know why? For when Gentiles who do not have the Law do instinctively the things of the Law, these, not having the Law, are a law to themselves,
Romans 2:14

Even the heavens declare the glory of God while Christians besmirch and attack anyone they perceive as not fitting into their idea of God.

Cute? Sure he's good looking but he is not my type if you are trying to say women watch him cause he is good looking.

I just love all the personal attention you are handing out to everyone but no thank you. I already have a Shepherd
The more you post, the more you come outta the closet with your true self.

Your fruit betrays you. We see right thru your mask.

Most of us know Desertrose well enough to know she's not some kind of self-proclaimed judge. But you didn't have a problem painting her & judging her as such, did you?

Again, your fruit betrays you.

This is totally unbiblical. The very word "Repent" means to put the very essence of your thinking into another (new and different) mode, and to follow that thinking in how you relate to Christ.

The Bible clearly tells us, "As a man thinketh, so is he." Thinking Christ-like is NOT a 'work.'

Joel Osteen is an encourager to the body of Christ and his ministry the Lord has used to help thousands out of their depression and to have hope in God.

Exhorting/encouraging others to believe and hope in God is a ministry gift. Romans 12:8. There are many people out there that have been beaten down by the enemy and life in general that need hope and encouragement that God is for them and that He will help them.

Some get mad at others because they believe the foul demonic belief that God makes them sick to "teach" them something and so they get offended when they hear others say that God is a good God and He wants you well and He loves you like any good Father would.

Then we have those that want to tear down the work of God because they think he doesn't preach like they would. It's sickening to watch this foul behavior being done amongst us because someone has a different type of ministry then some one else. Their malice towards others is defiling to the body of Christ.

Galatians 5:15-16 (NASB)
[SUP]15 [/SUP] But if you bite and devour one another, take care that you are not consumed by one another.

[SUP]16 [/SUP] But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
JO teaches a self righteous doctrine of works. Yet, this one is all right in your book.

I guess you don't know what self-righteousness is after all.

Hi preacher.
Do you have a church I can look up on line or are you self-proclaimed?
What church do you go to? You've already asked others, so I think it's ok to ask you.

I hope it wasn't couch church in front of the TV.
