Hi,

I have a grandmother who is very racist and selfish (she's been that way as far back as everyone in my family can remember; it's not just because she's getting older). Lately, God has been telling me to visit her more often so as to show love to her and hopefully lead her to Christ. However, at least once out of every three times I see her she says something racist. It's not just side-comments or slurs; it's usually comments that are important parts of the conversation so I can't just ignore them (and I also don't believe someone should be allowed to make terrible statements without at least some of the time being rebuked). I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to lovingly reply to her when she makes racist comments?

I don't even know why I am replying, because I am not sure how you should handle it. There are a number of ways of going about it, of course.
In the last couple of ears I have (hopefully temporarily) terminated two relationships, one with a friend and one with a brother-in-law, ) in part because of their prejudiced hearts and remarks.
I am not suggesting you do that. I am just saying I understand how distressing it can be.

All I can offer you is that I will pray for her, and you.

I pray God gives you a blessed plan.

"Why?", asked in a variety of ways, is one of the most effective words in our language to get people (even old people) to really have to look honestly at the things they have gotten used to saying.

You can tell her God doesn't want her speaking about others like that & holding hatred in her heart. You can tell her out of love we all will be judged by him & you don't want her to be judged for her ways because there are severe consequences.

There is this one black woman on youtube that is always putting down white people, and I wrote this as a comment, which I am not racist, and it is true what I wrote, but it might appear a little harsh, but I was only trying to get the point across to play fair, for human nature is human nature, and I do tend to appear harsh at times, but they have to understand to play fair.

I do not understand whites this, and blacks that, for the truth is human behavior is human behavior, and the white supremacy global plan as if they are more evil than anyone else, for everyone pushes for power. The truth is that all ethnic groups and nations push for power, but when they do not have the power they cry oppression, but if they had the power they would push it too, which look at black gangs pushing for power against each other, and what are you doing in my hood, for they like that thug lifestyle so how will the black community change. If an ethnic group is hurting each other, and pushing for power against each other, how can they talk of other ethnic groups that push for power.

Indian tribe against Indian tribe,African tribe against African tribe,European nation against European nation,Asian nation against Asian nation, people of ethnic groups will even go against each other,so you know they will go against those who are not of their ethnic group.

All ethnic groups push for power, and human nature is human nature, but when they do not have the power they cry oppression, but if they had the power they would push it too. When Egypt, the first power, along with black nations, which God describes in the Bible that they were wicked and cruel, because all nations push for power, since they were the first ones to receive power, they could not retain it for everybody around them were getting bigger, for the first ones to have power will not be able to retain it,but if they could of they would of tried to control the world, and what were they, you guessed it,pushing for power and cruel, then Assyria, same thing pushing for power, then Babylon, same thing, then Medo-Persia,same thing, then Greece, same thing, then the Roman Empire, same thing.

But the last one to get power, and control, will be able to retain it longer, for when everybody else got knocked down they could never rise again, but each one of those powers if they could would be doing the same thing, pushing for power and being cruel. Pushing for power and control, and being cruel,is not a white thing only, but all ethnic groups, and nations,it only happens that white people got the upperhand in world power, but they are not more cruel, but were the last people to get the power so they could retain it,but back at the time of Egypt they were pushing for power, and cruel, and God said, what makes you to differ from another person.

God said they accuse and excuse each other, for they accuse others, and then make excuses for themselves and their people, who are just as controlling and cruel, which just because they do not have the power they are innocent, for their own people would do the same thing if they could. If blacks could control the world they would, like they try to control in their neighborhoods,so I am not buying global white supremist plan as if they are more evil than anybody else, for all ethnic groups, and nations,do the same thing. And the truth is out of all the ethnic groups and kingdoms that have ruled, the blacks had it easy compared to them in how they were treated by the whites, and they say oppression, while they are living high on the hog in America, millionaires, billionaires, great jobs, etc.

All ethnic groups, and nations, push for power, and the blacks do too,but since they do not have that much power they cry, oppression from the white devil, but if they had the power they would push it too, like people have been doing for thousands of years on this planet that is motivated by arrogance, and self exaltation, and Africans were the first ones displaying that pushing for power, controlling, and cruelty, what are whites to do when they see all the fighting, think we got to get them before they get us,and that is the way the world rolls, for white people seen Africans, and Arabs, and Greece,or knew about it,pushing for power, before they ever had control, maybe if they set a better example the white people might not be so much trying to control, but you know, that is how the world rolls,so they will go with it,we will get you before you get us,for blacks would steamroll right over whites if they could any time in history, and would of back when they had power,so you want war,you got war.

People do not play fair, for I am white, but that does not mean I will stick up for whites, and I am a man,but that does not mean I will stick up for men,for I play fair, and am color blind to skin color, not going by black or white, but what is wrong and right, but the world cannot do that, for while blacks cry white devils, they push for power too.

Rom 2:14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves: Rom 2:15 Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another.

The world accuses and excuses each other, doing the same things as the ones they are accusing, but excusing themselves as if they are not evil, for don't you know the world is a bunch of idiots calling each other idiots,so I am not going to sympathize with the black community for a little trouble above anyone else, for if they could they would rip my throat out and feed it to me.

I do not like to be sarcastic, but I will this time, let the black people revolt, and start a racial war, black against white, and then see how oppressed black people are,for there is no way of beating the crazy as a mother white people when it comes to war,and even if whites were losing, the whites could always call on the white people from Europe, and it can be payback time for when Egypt and Africans had the power, and were pushing for power and cruel, which believe me they were more cruel back then than what is occurring now,for if whites can be blamed for slavery when they had nothing to do with it,then blacks today can be blamed for all blacks did in the past.

Play fair people, and stop accusing and excusing, for all people push for power, and they are not innocent if they do not have the power, for they would push for power too if they could, and God said however a person thinks, that is how they are, whether they have it in reality or not.

Sorry it is a little harsh, but people have to understand that all ethnic groups, and nations, push for power, and want to rule and control, and stop dogging out a specific race as if they are more evil, for human nature is human nature.

Stop accusing and excusing.

Hi,

Lately, God has been telling me to visit her more often so as to show love to her and hopefully lead her to Christ. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to lovingly reply to her when she makes racist comments?
Well, since I only make comments when I know the person well enough to say it, it's usually related to someone we know. So, if the comment is something like "All blacks are ____'", I'd ask, "Was so-and-so like that? Or remember how _____ helped us?" And then if the person says, "Jews are _____." I'd start listing nice bosses we've had who were Jewish, and then remind them who else helped us, and how that person happened to be Jewish. Once the person realizes they liked people of that ethnical group, or realize someone they know wasn't like that despite being in that ethnical group, they start out with, "except." And then I can usually name others they know.

And then I ask what our ethnical background says we should be like. When someone characterizes any group of people all the time, they also know what their group is supposed to be like too. Then it gets funny, because each of us can truly say we're both like that and not like that.

Part of my ethnic makeup is Irish. The Irish are supposed to be lucky. I get laughs, particularly from Irish people, when I mention that no one ever says what kind of luck that's supposed to be. (I think it works because people can come up with all their "bad luck" stories faster than the "good luck" stories.) And laughing at our own stereotypes gives us a bit of room to realize no one ever is the stereotypical person.

I'm not sure if this ever stops the mindset, but, eventually, it stops them from having it around me.

Stop accusing and excusing...I suppose I am accusing my grandmother of racism. However, she is racist. That is the truth. I don't know what else to call it when one says that one group is filthy or that African Americans should be grateful that white people brought them over as slaves or else they wouldn't be here now. I'm certainly not excusing any racism. Racism is ugly in the eyes of God. Yes, people of all races can be racist against others. Racism is a human problem not a problem of a specific race. However, no one is justified in being racist against anyone.

When I talk to my grandmother about racism, I'm not worried about what someone else is doing somewhere else. I'm worried about the hurtful and terrible things she is saying.

I'm not sure if this is meant for me or JesusRules. I'm not sure who the lost tribes of Europe are. I suppose my history's a bit rusty in that respect. When Israel colonized and overthrew the people who were in the Promised Land, they were acting on specific orders from God, and the people they were overthrowing were so evil they burned their children alive. Lots of cultures have colonized others, but I have yet to hear of one since the Old Testament that had specific orders from God to do so. Indeed, colonization is a muddied subject because there is often some peaceful aspects, but also terrible violence involved. Christians are called to witness respectfully and love others, regardless of their culture. Anyone who perpetrates violence against another individual, unless it's to defend oneself and/or another person, is not obeying the command to love others. It doesn't matter which country is the one hurting another, it's still wrong.

It was not meant for you and was sarcastic. The groups I mentioned never colonized anyone overseas to my knowledge. Well maybe the Asians have, but my core point was that mostly one group is responsible.

Oh, okay. I was thinking, "Hmmm, I guess I'm even worse at history than I thought!":) Well, Native Americans might not have colonized people, but some tribes did war against others. Some Asian countries did travel around the world, and they did attack some places, although I don't know exactly how prevalent that was. I'm afraid most of my history of India comes from Sherlock Holmes and 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas, so can't speak about them. But, yeah. In terms of strictly colonization, it's not new, but it wasn't nearly as wide-spread before the Eurasian countries wanted a bit of every other place. I kind of think that was a result of them having the technology to do so, though. Historically, the people who get to be in charge tend to be psychopaths who just can't resist trying to kill their neighbors.

a person is a person is a person. I don't care where they live, where their parents lived, or what hair/eye/skin colour they have. that is one of the reasons, i like to talk this way (chat/forum/internet). I do not know, how you look like and that is fine :)

Rosella, i don't know, how to talk about racism with someone that has is. That is very difficult, because they often see it as their
worldview, not as an opinion to be (easily) changed. Good luck with your grandmother and may god give you the right words at the right time !

I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to lovingly reply to her when she makes racist comments?

if she's not a believer, nope. isn't it sorta silly for us to expect the unsaved to act like Christians when we barely manage it sometimes?
(not saying you're doing that, Rossella, just my "thought process" ;) )

my grandfather was so lost in this regard he turned off The Ed Sullivan Show when Sammy Davis Jr came on. (!)
but he never said a word about it when my sisters and i were visiting, so i didn't know till his kids (my dad and my aunt) told me after he died when i was 16. God totally protected us from his twisted views.

God saved him 2 months before his fatal heart attack. there was such a change in him!
and... i find i miss him.

i just wanted to plant the thought there might be things about your grandmother you love.
and that God saves! may He save her!
though this behavior is atrocious, see if you can think of things you might miss, and just love her while she's here.

If everybody knew that there is only one race; the human race; that we are really all related to one another, there would be no segregation of races then, otherwise, we would have to separate the white blonde blue eyed individuals from out among the Germans as the only true superior race since the Nazis were pushing that as such globally.

I thank God Jesse Owens put that notion down in the Olympics. And yet we do not see the Africans taking the Nazis standard of judgement as superior and running with it afterwards, because they know such standards is not worthy to have.

It is shameful that most of these bigots try to make it Biblical for having this bigotry, to even kill others as if thinking they are doing God's service... and His words say they are not.

John 16:1These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.[SUP]2 [/SUP]They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.[SUP]3 [/SUP]And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

If they believe the Bible, then there is no race, but one.

Acts 17:[SUP]26 [/SUP]And hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;

Even before the flood, we were all of one mother whom started the human race.

Genesis 3:20And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.

If they do not believe that we all came from Adam & Eve, then asked them if they believe only eight souls survived the flood and if they do, then we are all related; in spite of the man made division of race because of the lie that is the evolution theory.

When Christ teaches us to love our enemies; then those that profess Him have no excuse to harbor bigotry, especially after having been treated by someone of that ethnic or nationality.

Matthew 5:[SUP]43 [/SUP]Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.[SUP]44 [/SUP]But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;[SUP]45 [/SUP]That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.[SUP]46 [/SUP]For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?[SUP]47 [/SUP]And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?[SUP]48 [/SUP]Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

When you consider hatred as a work of the flesh, then there can be no support in scripture for bigotry.

Galatians 5:[SUP]19[/SUP]Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,[SUP]20 [/SUP]Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,[SUP]21 [/SUP]Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.[SUP]22[/SUP]But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,[SUP]23 [/SUP]Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.[SUP]24 [/SUP]And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.[SUP]25 [/SUP]If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

But of course, if your grandmother does not believe in Him at all, then you should share you faith in Him as to why you believe and how you look to Him to deliver you from sin in helping you live as His, because you trust Him more than just as your Savior, but you trust Him as your Good Shepherd to help you to follow Him because He is in you & with you always.

Your grandmother, being a sinner, may not see it in her flesh to forgive or to fathom loving an enemy to forgive them or to love them with Christ's love until she sees how much Christ loved her even though she was an enemy to Him.

Romans 5:[SUP]6 [/SUP]For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.[SUP]7 [/SUP]For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.[SUP]8 [/SUP]But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.[SUP]9 [/SUP]Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.[SUP]10 [/SUP]For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.[SUP]11 [/SUP]And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

1 Timothy 1:[SUP]15 [/SUP]This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.[SUP]16 [/SUP]Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.[SUP]17 [/SUP]Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.

I pray that the Lord will lead you to share your hopes in Christ so that your grandmother may place her hopes in Him too, because only He can deliver her from her sins of hatred. So may she sees your hopes in Him for all things for her.

1 John 3:[SUP]3 [/SUP]And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure......[SUP]8 [/SUP]He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.

Philippians 1:[SUP]6 [/SUP]Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:.........[SUP]11 [/SUP]Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God.

2 Timothy 4:[SUP]18 [/SUP]And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Jude 1:[SUP]24 [/SUP]Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,[SUP]25 [/SUP]To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

being 'born-in' radical-racism, home-grown or otherwise, must be like being born into,
let's say an 6x6cell - never to be left,
until Jesus intervenes or returns...

You don't mention how old your Grandma is. If she's elderly you may not have any luck. Some beliefs are too ingrained.
I've had luck laughing at comments as if they were meant as jokes "Oh Grandma you're such a hoot" might just confuse her though.
Blessings
