Hi guys, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but I'm currently reading the book, 'The Shack' by William (W.M.) Paul Young, (a super fantastic read and highly recommended if you haven't read it). While reading this book, I started thinking of other books I could end up reading but I was also prompted to consider asking my mother in law who is a librarian...

I quickly ended up changing my mind, and now want to surprise her with a great book for Mother's Day, something that would definitely enjoy reading. I'm looking for help as far as recommendations and what not.. not so much anything like devotionals or a book full of scriptures lol, but maybe a fictional story that she could find herself immersed in... I also would seek recommendations for myself lol

Can you guys help me?

Not really. We'd have to know what she likes reading already. Tell us that, and then maybe we can help. :)

Indeed! Reading preferences are so very esoterically geared.

That's a tough question to answer lol, because she is a librarian and in a sense kind of reads everything. I don't want to ask her, "hey what type of books do you read" cause I want it to be a complete surprise...

Given some of the things going on in her life and seeing things that she has to deal with on a daily basis, I was considering something that would be a page turner, that would keep her reading... something that would encourage her as she reads, to build up her strength and relationship/dependcy on God, a feel-good story, you know? I know that's pretty vague, but I'm reading reviews on books that I'm coming across through google to kind of find something I'm thinking she would enjoy so it's just a matter of looking them up.

• 'Redeeming Love' by Francine Rivers (something I'm going to read for myself as well lol)

• 'The Bluebird and the Sparrow by Janette Oak

Okay so I'm currently in the Top 100 Christian Books list.. (I think I'm in bestsellers) but for better help, I guess I'm looking for

Adventure, mystery, comedy.

Something along those lines?

I also know that she enjoys the time period of like 1600s - 1800s, so things like Masquerade balls and/or settings of the Disney movie, 'Princess and the Frog' lol

I have read a lot of Francine Rivers. She has several free standing novels but also a series on biblical women ie Ruth, Mary etc told in a biblical yet fictional way. I remember liking them it's been awhile though

As much as some people love Jannette Oke her work might be too simple for a librarian who reads alot. Good luck. Books make great gifts.

Francine Rivers. " Redeeming Love" would fit your criteria.

You said you want to read too. Ask her what she likes to read. If necessary, (because she's going come back with "What do you like"), say you want to read something different.

I admit it. I don't read self-help books, and I rarely read Christian novels. But my taste is in feel-good books, so if she has a genre I might be able to come up with some -- particularly if she likes books for kids and teens.
