"I love them that love me; and those that seek me early
shall find me. Riches and honour are with me, yea, durable
riches and righteousness. My fruit is better than gold, yea,
than fine gold: and my revenue than choice silver."
(Proverbs 8:17-19).
A man was talking with a missionary in his humble home. He
spoke of his struggles and the difficulties of keeping his
family, because he was poor and what he earned cleaning out
land in the countryside was very little. During the
conversation, the missionary was attracted by a rock
weighing about two kilos that was on a small shelf, among
various papers. "What is that?" asked the missionary. "Those
are some late bills that I haven't been able to pay yet,"
answered the owner of the house. "I was talking about the
rock and not the papers," continued the missionary. "I found
it here on my land, a long time ago, when I was cleaning it.
I thought it was beautiful and kept it to decorate a piece
of furniture," said the man. The missionary, approaching the
place where the rock was, held it and said: "Before I
dedicated my life totally to God, I worked in a jewelry
shop. I might be mistaken, but I believe this rock is pure
gold." The missionary was right and, after having it
examined, the man sold it and his life was transformed
completely.
Many times we feel like that man. We want to be rich but we
are content with the poverty in which we live. We want to
reach success but continue to be broken by failure. We want
to be happy but sadness does not leave us. However,
everything would be different if we opened our heart to the
greatest treasure that any large rock of pure gold, and that
is at our disposal and very close at all times: Jesus
Christ, Rock of Ages.
There is no greater treasure than to have the Lord in our
lives and in our home. There is no greater success than to
hear Christ say, "come, blessed of my Father". There is no
greater joy than to have our names written in the Book of
Life, which registers those who will live forever in Heaven
with God.
Those who have Jesus in their lives, even without money,
will never be poor!
