Diamonds are cool but way down the pecking order. Jesus comes first - always!

Where's the option that diamond rings have really only been for rich people throughout history until the idea of a diamond ring as a wedding ring almost collapsed altogether during the great depression, but the reason it regained popularity was for advertising. The same place the slogan "diamonds are a girl's best friend" came from as well as the idea that a groom should spend significant amounts of money on said ring. The formula advertisers put out in the 1930's was 1 month's salary, but they've been steadily increasing that amount and is now supposedly 3 months salary, though I've heard of up to 6.

Where is the option for, "I'm Too Cheap To Own a Real Diamond"?

Personally, I'm not interested in owning anything that requires a larger insurance policy than I do.

When I was married, my engagement ring was a cubic zirconia that wa taken from a ring that I already owned. We went to a jeweler, had them put it in a better-quality gold band, and the whole shebang cost about $100.

It sparkled in the light just as well, if not better, than a "real" diamond, and I totally loved it.

If I ever got married again, I would probably choose another CZ.

I'll admit, I do want a diamond. However, I wouldn't mind if it's small. I would think to myself "if he can't afford to get me a diamond, then could he afford a family?"

You know how guys say it's biological for them to be attracted to certain features in a woman (symmetrical faces, attractive body, long hair etc.) ...it's the same for women. But we look at different things like status, financial means, height. We want to feel safe with them. I'm not saying we're gold diggers, but I would say most women want a man that will be a good provider. The ring is one of the first confirmations that he can.

I wanted to add that I read somewhere that the more money spent on a wedding, the higher the chance it will end in divorce. I don't see the big fuss in a huge wedding. I would rather have my small (or big one...you never know right?) diamond that I can forever keep, instead of a big expensive party.

I completely agree with this. Those who place all their desires on an extravagant wedding day often have little thought for the life to follow...also why do brides spend a small fortune on a wedding gown which is worn only once and then buy cheap wedding rings - worn for a lifetime hopefully!

Yes! That's what I was trying to say too. I would rather have a nice decent ring to wear forever, than a fancy gown worn once.

I chose they still look good on a bad hair day. True and funny.
If I ever wear jewelery, ya better check me. I'm minimal. Set it and forget it.
I don't like anything that may need to be checked/adjusted throughout the day

1. Tim. 2, 9-10
9In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; 10But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works

Diamonds? Why bother? (If it is not in a cross or a wedding ring)

I had never wanted a big diamond, and we didn't have the money to buy one, before we got married, or when the kids were at home. Then, they grew up, and for our 30th wedding anniversary, hubby bought me the perfect diamond ring, which I picked out, a Canadian diamond and band to match our wedding rings.

Then, 2 years ago, I got huge flares in the tendon on my ring fingers. I kept hoping the fingers would recover, but they are permanently deformed. So, I need to get the wedding band and diamond ring sized. I guess it is time to face the fact that my fingers are deformed, and sizing is worth it.

My diamond is beautiful, I must remember to get it out for when I go to the big city, to get it sized.

According to the scripture, can people of this time and era keep those diamonds that seems to be forever? Nope.

Matthew 6:[SUP]19 [/SUP]Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:[SUP] 20 [/SUP]But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:
