God has been sending many messages lately to warn us of his desire to have his children become one with him. Storms all over Fires in the west out of control massive hurricanes one after another earth quakes. God is busy sending a message that should not be ignored. He is clearly wanting his people to come to love him and except him as their savior. All these things that are happening are enormous and happening one right after another. Not only is he wanting his children to except him as their savior. He is wanting Christians to be better and closer to him. It says in the bible there will be signs. I am not saying these are signs of the end of the world but we just never know.. So we need to get right with God and our loved ones here on Earth. If you have family problems resolve them if you can. If you have anger or hurt in your heart figure out how to let it go.
The world is in a uproar not only with storms but with people being ugly to each other. We need to get right with our selves and start living in the yes of the Lord. Many Christians have maybe lived the Christian life but could do it so much better or more. Start living today like the last days are here even though we should live that way anyways we really should start now. God is clearly sending message to his people. I say we listen to the warnings and live life to the fullest..

To live this reconciled relationship with God through Jesus Christ by trusting Him to be my Good Shepherd to help me lay aside every weight & sin in walking in the light in following Him is the race set before us.

By faith in Him I rely on Him to go and sin no more by the grace of God go I. That is how I get to know Him & the power of His resurrection when He is keeping sin from having dominion over me and to keep my heart in repentance in following Him.

I shall be thanking Jesus for this and more than just for my salvation in Heaven which is also to His glory in Heaven.

I think you're partly right, not that God is causing destruction just to get people to turn to him. Most of this is due to the consequence of our own sins. After all this time the human race has not learned to respect each other or nature (Which God gave us to take care of) This is exactly what God said in ancient times "If you sin in the land, it will vomit you up."

I wonder if there is a reason why famines and earthquakes are the natural disasters mentioned in association with the end times.

Regardless, we have worse things coming(notice in the red font).

As for hurricanes, Atlantic region statistics:

2008: 8 hurricanes, 5 major
2009: 3 hurricanes, 2 major
2010: 12 hurricanes, 5 major
2011: 7 hurricanes, 4 major
2012: 10 hurricanes, 2 major
2013: 2 hurricanes, 0 major
2014: 6 hurricanes, 2 major
2015: 4 hurricanes, 2 major
2016: 7 hurricanes, 4 major
2017: 6 hurricanes, 3 major

Not sure if I'd call this a warning from God any more than it is the results of global warming/cooling/climate change/algore.

He wants people to accept Him. If people except Him, they deny him. We don't want to be excepted from Heaven. We want to be accepted in Heaven. :)
