Do you believe that there are generic prayers?

I was taught prayer is a very personal thing between you and God. Are "group" prayers given to us to teach us more- How to Pray or what to say?

Although there is probably no REAL answer to this, Is there such thing as a more meaningful prayer (a prayer in which you have made up) as oppose to a prayer read out of a book? And if there is such thing as a more meaningful prayer, would that mean that there are prayers that are more important and less important to God? Or do we assume that even our biggest problems are small problems to God and therefore all prayers to him are of the same importance.

Example of importance to us- A child's need to have that new Batman Lego movie (in his eyes) could be just as important to him as Aunt Gretta's hip replacement surgery.

To God, both are his will, and would one prayer be more important than the other? If one is more important than the other- where does Mass Prayer come into play since it is (what is seems) just saying in character?

Wow. Way too complicated for no particularly good reason.

Prayer is communicating with God. We talk to him, he answers back. The only reason it feels like a monologue is because God's way of talking isn't by voice. He shows us stuff. He shows us stuff in his Word, he shows us stuff in regular life, and he answers prayers either immediately or eventually. We seek. He gives. We thank. He is glorified. We praise. He is glorified. We confess. He is forgiving.

Why talk generic prayers and group prayers? Why are you praying at all if it's not to talk to God? And since you're talking to God, saying, "How's the weather" just doesn't seem relevant, even if it is generic.

I don't think there is a 'generic' prayer per se, unless its memorized repetitious babbling that's not heartfelt. The substance of a prayer is what I believe God hears, whether it emanates from a child or an adult. But I suspect a child's prayer for toys or an adult relaying their personal wish list, is confusing God with Santa Claus... jmo
