Is it possible to love our spouse as much as God?

Time ago I read a question from a college student to a pastor in a christian Blog. And he said that:

"If viewed like this then it becomes relatively impossible for us to love anyone more than God, for every time we enact the sacred gift of giving love to someone we are simultaneously loving Love. We are, in a sense, calling forth God through our act of love while also demonstrating our love of and our love towards God. I believe that the union of man and woman is a representation of the relationship between Jesus and His bride (the Church), and is a bond where we share God’s love with each other – we will see Christ’s love in each others eyes"

If that happened you would be creating an idol, which would mean that you would not be loving God as you should.

Being Christian requires disciple and obedience to the word. When we marry I believe it is a statement that we believe in something that God made for us.

The love we have for anybody here on earth should look like hate in comparison with how we love the Lord (Luke 14:26, Matthew 10:37).

This is a pretty big deal, if you think about all the other things the Bible says about love- love your neighbor as yourself, husbands love your wives as Christ loves the church, without love I am nothing, the greatest of these is love...

So we’re told, over and over, to love one another- but that it should look like Hate in comparison with how we love God. Mark 12:30- “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength”. That’s huge. Love Him with everything you’ve got. More than anything or anyone else- including your spouse.

This sounds like crazy talk and bad marriage advice to non-believers; sometimes believers have trouble with it- how can we love anyone else if we’re putting our entire being into loving God?

There’s a wonderful, beautiful thing about this- the more we love God, the more we are capable of loving each other. The more we obey and honor God By loving each other, the more we are loving God.

you are asking questions about love: This is good. There are many types of love; the most important is agape love. The Bible says "God is love" (see 1 John 4:8,16). That is the agape type love that we can only learn in part; until we are with God and then we will be like Him. MissCris described it perfectly in the above post.

After 43 years I love my wife with a deeper love than ever before but I can still become frustrated with her. By Gods grace I endure her issues and she mine. God is considerably more even toward me than I am to Him. God never changes and I depend on that quality in Him.
