G'day all,

Just got a quick question. My father was a born again Christian, myself I am an explicit Atheist. It has almost been a year since his death and I am planning an event to honour his life. I knew the man very well as a person however we never got into anything about our beliefs because we would have just been butting heads, I would say that we held each others beliefs in high regard.

I have read the bible briefly to get an understanding into his (your) religion, but was wondering if there was anything that I could do for him now that he would appreciate. Perhaps some type of verse from the bible which could be spoken, something to do with honouring the life of a person after death.

Thanks in advance,
Your friendly neighborhood Atheist,
-Roger

John 11:25-26
"I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me shall live even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me shall never die."
This verse is very tradition for Protestant funerals and honors your father's belief in Jesus Christ.

You can honor your father by becoming a christian because I am sure he is looking down on you right now. Kids learn what they live and somehow I cannot believe that you are a true full fledge atheist.

Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

I'd recommend asking around some of his christian friends. He, may have a favorite hymn or song that you could sing. and I agree with the John 11 reference. A key element of the Christian faith is that Jesus rose from the dead defeating the greatest evil on earth, death. And we believe that one day we will share in that resurrection if we believe and submit to God. That is the basis for much of the hope in Christianity.

Job 19: 25For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
26And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:
27Whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me.
28But ye should say, Why persecute we him, seeing the root of the matter is found in me? 29Be ye afraid of the sword: for wrath bringeth the punishments of the sword, that ye may know there is a judgment.
