I did something that at my age I should have known better, but believe it or not, I didn't mean to do anything wrong.

I have been sitting with 2 of my grandsons after school, and my son and his wife are strict with the amount of television they watch. They are only allowed to watch 30 min. to an hour a day unless they watch it with their father. I don't have a problem with that, I understand their issues with to much television for many reasons. But if the are watching television when their Step-Mother home from work and sees them watching the television she complains they are watching to much of it. She doesn't inquire about how much they are watching, so, I told my son about 2 weeks ago that I never turned the channel off of the Weather Channel so she wouldn't have anything to complain about. But after my conversation with him I thought that was really unnecessary, so I started letting them watch about an hour as long as we changed the station before she got home. My son is so mad at me that he won't let me see the boys now unless he is home. He says that I lied to him and that he wants them to have more integrity than the example I showed them. I think my son is over reacting, but I should have told him what I was doing. I just didn't think about because my intentions were not sinister.

I have prayed about this and what I should do but I feel so badly about this and can use all the prayer I can get. If anyone has any advise I would certainly like to hear it. Am I this horrible person that shouldn't be alone with them? Or is he over reacting? Regardless, he won't change hiw mind. He never does.

Thanks so much for listending. We are both Born Again Christians and attend the same church.

well honestly i know you meant no ill intention but you did do something behind is back. I believe he should give you another shot and also that you should tell him your sorry and it won't happen again. This is fairly something minor but he probley sees it as something much more. Men cool down over time and eventually he should trust you again. If he refuses to trust you after something like this then he is being really immature, WE ARE HUMAN not perfect people. You understood your mistake and are willing obviously not to do it again. you should not feel any guilt at this point. you did your part now its time for him to do his. if he does not do his part it's on him not you

Thank you for your insite. It means a lot. You're right, I did do something behind his back but I just didn't think about it like that at the time. I have already apologized to him several times. He does sees this as something very sinister. I pray you are right and he will forgive me. I have tried to be sooo careful to respect his decisions about everything and support him with his sons whenever they complain he's not fair. I know i messed up. I will of course never do this again. Thank you again for taking the time to answer me.

Yes you did wrong and yes you have to apologize. You typed that you have already apologized which is good. You need to see that it was wrong in the fact that he is the father and you must abide by his wishes. I would tell him it will never happen again and promise and make things right. I believe he will forgive you and let you back in.

Father God in Jesus name I ask you to soften the Father's heart and forgive and give him another chance. Let him see true repentance and sorrow and God soften his heart to where he will let him watch the children again alone. In Jesus name I pray.

I praise God that He took control of this situation. My son called today and all is much better. I have never gone behind his back before this, not EVER, and I can't explain why it never occurred to me that I was doing it this thime. But we have reconciled. I give God all of the credit!! I and some of you interceded on my behalf. Thank you!!

I'm very happy for you that things worked out. It seems that your son decided to adhere to the Christian principle, "Forgive others as God forgives you.". (paraphrase)
God bless you and your whole family!

I'm on the flip side... while I don't appreciate my kids watching a lot of TV either....

I think your son and his wife are rude and ignorant. (sorry so strong)... but when I hire babysitters and/or have family watch my kids... they do know our stand on things, but if they let the kids watch tv or something, it's up to them... they are in charge, and I'm thankful they came to watch my kids and are invested in my kids' lives. It's a different story if you were doing something harmful (like an extremely excessive amount of sugar, play outside in the street alone, etc...) But an hour of TV??? in exchange for watching them??? seriously????

Now, I don't expect you to...as a Christian...get indignant over this or argue with them.... but I wouldn't mind mentioning that I feel taken advantage of in watching the kids when they don't trust you or feel you are capable of generally sticking to their rules. Will you PERFECTLY stick to them??? no... but you try to let them raise their kids their way... I would be honest that their lack of trust is hurtful. However, I would go ahead and tell him that back when you told him you left it on the weather channel, you normally did. You only recently let the kids have about an hour of TV a day.

....and really, if they despise TV that much, why do they even own one???? Just a thought from a parent that would never disrespect her mother in law the way you've been treated.

Now, my Mother in Law spanked my son when he had the flu over not wanting to eat. She forced him to eat and he threw up on the way home. Am I irritated at that??? OH YEAH!!! But I honestly never said anything... I was in the hospital delivering my third and she was watching two sick kids in place of me..... so I let it go out of respect for her. Let me tell you, I was torn... with two with the flu and the doc having to induce for the safety of the third... gosh.... what a situation!
