Hi,

I would like some advice from people who consider themselves to be active, growing Christians. I remarried 2 1/2 years ago to a man who was divorced. He has two grown sons and one daughter-in-law. They all seemed to accept me fairly well until soon after the wedding. Then, the daughter-in-law who is a truly spoiled only child from a wealthy family decided that she didn't like me. I don't remember saying anything offensive, but they say that I made a comment that upset them during one of their visits to my home. They said they did not want to be around me any longer and that they wanted to just have a relationship with my husband away from me. They are supposedly Christians also, so I wrote them a letter. I pointed out that none of us picked each other, but that surely we could get along well enough to have lunch once in a while. I apologized for offending them and told them that I forgave them for offending me. I asked if we could meet again and start fresh. They said my letter was not sincere enough and refused. My husband does not like to stick up for me, but reluctantly agreed to stay away from them and see if they would agree to move on, which they haven't. I told him that if he wanted to take his son to lunch I would appreciate it if they would just go the two of them without the daughter-in-law since I was not welcome. However, his son thought that was totally unacceptable as his wife should be welcome even though I am not welcome. They have only been married one year longer than we have, so it isn't like she has been around for decades. Should I just say fine you three all go out and have lunch once a week and I'll stay away or should my husband take the same stand that his son is that if I am not welcome then forget it. If I didn't make it clear, his son won't agree to have lunch with just his dad alone. He wants to bring his wife, but he doesn't want his dad bringing his wife (me). For the record, I didn't have anything to do with the divorce, I met him at church 3 years after they were split. I don't want to be evil, but I am still human with feelings.

Thanks and God bless.

Marie
