I have been recently saved and feel that God is calling me to help people in crisis.I am interested in becoming a Christian counselor. What courses are required? Is college a necessity?Besides counseling is there anything else I could do where I would be dealing with crisis intervention?
I really feel strongly that God is calling me for this so any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

God bless all of you (sorry if this is the wrong forum)

You need to decide if you want to become a couselor/psychologist who incorporates the faith into the healing process, or if you are leaning towards ministry and moving towards pastoral counseling. Of the two, I leaned more towards pastoral counseling because the methods/models for the healing/helping process were based on a shorter time period. (Five sessions with the "pastor" versus open ended hourly visits with a professional) You can get right into ministry with a Bachelor's degree in Pastoral Counseling, and depending on the denominational guidelines you are under take achurch as soon as you earn it. Taking the psychologist/counselor route is going to require a Master's degree and a considerable amount of licensing before you can get started...
