Money is essentially a form of exchange for us to purchase goods and services (food, car, house, TV etc). Hence, it is definitely important in order to live a basic life here.
One way to answer that question is to live life without money for one month and see the lack (or perhaps the joy?) in our life.

I reackon the above really is an Awesome answer...With regards to 1 Timothy 6:10, objectively, I think that money is important. But do I like money? Definately not. It would be nice to have an alternative, but with the current economy, I guess I need to be careful what I wish for.

now that I've read more, please allow me to explain...
A man walking along finds a pearl of great value in a field that doesn't belong to him... he wants this pearl so badly, he goes and sells everything he has to buy the field to get the pearl... ((yes, it's a parable of Jesus paraphrased by me)... You will spend your money on what's important to you, so money itself may not be important, but what you spend it on is. For example, it's important to feed my kids... so I spend it on food.. duh... for them... But some decisions are more... like is God important to me? Do I spend money on furthering the Gospel? Which is more important, having a SECOND car... ((which I do, so I'm not judging but reflecting on myself as well)) or giving that money to finance a mission somewhere? Do I spend my money on video games? or do I frequent the Christian book store for the latest worship CD? Do I have money left to even tithe with? Or are my bills more important? Again... I'm being more reflective... not pointing fingers.... Question was asked, and I hope my answer might be helpful. |

Money is always important. It allows us to engage within commerce. And the more you engage within commerce, the more you recognise money's importance. The key is to maintain your Christian identity in light of your commercial endeavours. Money is a natural by-product of commerce. Ultimately, I would say that money can become an important instrument given wisdom on how to use it, and grace on how to govern the temptation to abuse it.

What was it that Jesus said... oh ya thats it who's head is on this coin....well it's ceasar's... then give to ceasar what is ceasar's and give to God what is God's as has been stated above the love of money aka. GREED or covetousness is the root of all evil if we all lived in mud huts still our desires for a brand new suv or the latest lady gaga album would be irrelevant now wouldn't they? It would be still more important to you that you had 3 squares a day and a roof over your head wouldn't it? The entire monetary system that we have today coupled with the fact that we are quickly becoming a Godless nation explains volumes about why we are where we are. It is because of this primal desire to have more than our neighbour has and the fact that we refuse to allow God to lead us that in our lives that we are in the mess we are in!

Money is important, but not the most important thing in life.(:
