Default Parents: When was the last time you expressed to your kids how much you love them?

Last night, the Lord blessed me with the opportunity to minister to several young people at a youth rally held at my old church. As we talked and prayed, the same theme kept coming up time after time. The reason why they had gotten into whatever mess they were involved in was because none of them felt as though their parents loved them because their parents were to busy or their parents simply were never around.

You can't imagine how hard it was to hold back my own tears, remembering what it felt like years ago when I was in their shoes, as I ministered to them about how much Jesus loves them and the great extent in which Jesus had gone to so that our sins could be forgiven. I even dared to hug some of them (which is completely against my own personal policy) because they needed to know that they are loved.

The saddest part about this ordeal is that some of the teens were the children of prominent members and leaders of this church which only goes to show how sometimes even we as Christians can get so caught up in church business that we neglect our families.

Please do not go to bed tonight without telling your kids how much you love them!

When I have kids, I'm going to tell them I love them everyday (That sounds a bit childish, but that's what my what I am at heart!)

Amen to that!

I can promise you that my future kids will know how much their daddy here on earth as well as their Daddy in heaven loves them.

Words can't express what I want to say; I smiled, Crossfire.

This is a GREAT thread, Crossfire!! I have no kids, but if I ever do I will remember to show them that I love them. They are the greatest gift that God can give to us.

God bless.

I don't care how old my son gets I am going to tell him the exactly same thing before he leaves the house, hangs up his phone or heads off to sleep that I have since he was tiny..."I love you, babyboy". He tolerates me pretty well. He will even hug me in public.

Hi

Thanks for the wonderful reminder.

I make a point to pray for my three girls every night before they sleep and this is one opportunity for me to say 'I LOVE YOU SO MUCH!' to them.

I spent New Years eve weekend at my best friend's father's house, and just being around the man made me want to apologize to my own dad for all the stupid times when I was a kid when I didn't get my way and I'd yell, "You just hate me, don't you?!" at him. This man actually has no problem yelling at his kids, "I hate kids!" At first my friend was telling me he was just kidding around and didn't really mean that... then we were in a very bad accident on the drive back to my place (one where even the cops that showed up to help us said we had gotten off surprisingly lucky), and he calls his dad to let him know what happened and the first words out of the dad's mouth was "What the (word I won't repeat) did you do, you idiot?" I told him to hang up on him but he stayed on and I could hear his dad berating and screaming at him for about a good ten minutes, then finally said, "Now... you're okay right? Well then calm down." Yeah. Way to add that as a final thought. Father of the year right there.

Being around that for a weekend made me realize how lucky I am to have the dad that I do. My dad let me know every day at least once a day that he loved me, even when I was being punished he never let any stern lectures, spankings, or groundings end without him saying, "You know I love you right? And there's nothing you can do that will change that." Speaking as a child of a parent who made sure to do it, telling your kids you love them definitely sticks.

I tell my son all the time everyday I love him. The last time I said it was when I dropped him off at school this morning.
He always smiles and those big brown eyes just shine when I say it.

The only thing I would like to add is...make sure you do it in a sinsere way...don't let it become something you say so much that it loses it's
impact. I try to point out something that they have done that is positive, and then look them in the eye and tell them how much they mean to me...
and that I love them!!!

20 minutes ago. My son hears I Love Him when he wakes up, when he goes to bed and miscellaneous times during the day. I am so thankful for the gift of having a child, and I don't take that for granted. My son will always know that his mommy loves him no matter what!.... Just like his heavenly Father!!!

I think that as parents we need to remember its not just about saying you love them. Its about showing them through spending time with them. Quality time can not replace quantity time. I tell my kids all the time I love them but I try to ask myself am I showing it through my actions.
