I was having a discussion the other day about Jesus Christ, and my friend said that there is nowhere in the Bible where Jesus said He was to be worshipped, that He came to save us from our sins and give us eternal life.My friend also said that we as Christians have taken His true intentions and twisted them around. He did not want all the different denominations we have, all the arguing over what the Bible means. He said we need to let Him out of the "box" we have put Him in and let His will be done.Any thoughts?

I guess the same could be said about America's Constitution. Separation of church and state was never intended to mean what it means today. There certainly are many doctrines that have weakened the Word of God especially in America. Ex: The bible gives examples of what happens to societies that kills their children yet Christians are willing to compromise and be tolerant when they vote or when they argue. Tolerance is something that is sending many people to hell in the end and it sounds like your friend has some beliefs that are more in line with what might be considered hare-lined or narrow-minded thinking, which I am proud to be both. I've been called stiff necked as well. Narrow is the way to heaven, broad is the road to hell. Denominations are man's way of having control instead of giving to the Holy Spirit and God certainly was of no denomination in particular but FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! NO WORSHIP?

Genesis 24:48
and I bowed down and worshiped the LORD. I praised the LORD, the God of my master Abraham, who had led me on the right road to get the granddaughter of my master's brother for his son.

Exodus 3:12
And God said, "I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you [ The Hebrew is plural.] will worship God on this mountain."

Exodus 7:16
Then say to him, 'The LORD, the God of the Hebrews, has sent me to say to you: Let my people go, so that they may worship me in the wilderness. But until now you have not listened.

Exodus 9:1
[ The Plague on Livestock ] Then the LORD said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: "Let my people go, so that they may worship me."

Exodus 9:13
[ The Plague of Hail ] Then the LORD said to Moses, "Get up early in the morning, confront Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: Let my people go, so that they may worship me,

Exodus 10:3
So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, "This is what the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: 'How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me.

Exodus 10:7
Pharaoh's officials said to him, "How long will this man be a snare to us? Let the people go, so that they may worship the LORD their God. Do you not yet realize that Egypt is ruined?"

Exodus 10:8
Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. "Go, worship the LORD your God," he said. "But tell me who will be going."

Exodus 10:26
Our livestock too must go with us; not a hoof is to be left behind. We have to use some of them in worshiping the LORD our God, and until we get there we will not know what we are to use to worship the LORD."

Exodus 20:5
You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me,

There are many more.

While I'll agree that we shouldn't have so many denominations ( yet somehbow i think they were inevitable...) and that Christ shouldn't be put in a box, I disagree on the concept of not worshipping Jesus. Jesus came and humbled himself, even though He was God in flesh. He lowered himself so that he could die for our sins and He would be lifted up. On hand, I can't think of where he said " worship me", but from what he did, he deserves to be worshiped as one who did the " impossible" and as one who was God in the flesh. Jesus did say " will you lay down your life for me?" and he said " abide in me" and I think those are two things that cover a lot of area , and worship is included under them. if you lay down your life for him, and abide in him and his ways, you will see that his way is superior and worhy or worshipping! But really, eringobrea had some good verses. Jesus was and is God, so why not worship Him? " I and the Father are one" Pretty clear there.

Makes no sense otherwise. Did you friend even give a purpose behind his statement? Other than because " Jesus didn't say exactly ' worship me'"?
