Has anyone else gotten that addiction or just craving to learn more and more? I used to dislike school but now i feel compelled to study and work hard because i feel good just doing it now for the pleasure of learning, but i kind of worry because usually when you get older and you get a job you end up getting addicted to your job and you start to neglect relationships all over.

I am not sure whether this is good or bad, obviously there are so many things to filter out since so much knowledge is either baloney or straight up lies and 'theoretical probabilities' but still.....

Umm...noo can't say that I've ever had that problem. I guess it could be a bad thing though.

Actually more commonly people become workaholics either for the purpose of avoiding their relationships, or because they are trying so hard to provide and give their family 'things i never had growing up' or 'the best chances' etc. Few people actually become workaholics because the work itself.
But if you still worry, all it would come down to is making a point to manage your time wisely. Agreeing to yourself to limit how much you will work a day, or a week. Then stick to your commitment. Also, recognizing ahead of time that working a lot to provide all kinds of things for your family, causing you to lose time with them usually does more damage. Most familys would rather you work less, and that they have less, than not have you around and have lots of money and things.

Am actually addicted to studying! lol Its not a bad thing, but it can be if it becomes your first priority, and it can also become a huge burden. The same goes for video gaming and watching stuff on television and the internet. What is important is for you to put your relationships before work, books, games, etc, and you will be just fine.

I think you guys may be missing a bigger picture, here, than just "addiction" to learning and schoolwork. In Ecclesiastes 3, verse 1, Solomon said, "There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: ..." He then goes on to list a bunch of activities for which there is a specific time. If you ever listened to the popular song from the 60's, you probably know some of them without even knowing they came from the Bible.

Anyway, you are just maturing into adulthood. You are shedding your childish ways and learning what it means to have responsibilities. This is your season for learning. There is nothing wrong with a thirst for knowledge in someone your age. In fact it is commendable. What is troublesome is the vast "army" of kids out there who don't give a darn whether they learn much at all.

So, my advice would be, don't worry that this may be a precursor of addicton to work. Just enjoy the moment and absorb as much knowledge as you can. You will find that a large store of knowledge is of great benefit as you wind your way through your adult years.

God bless you.

So the ''bigger picture'' is to ignore your conscience, don't worry about your future or making sure you maintain a correct attitude and balance, but instead just focus on acting on your current impulse with no concern for what may come from it later?

I agree with Ugly. I've always loved learning new things and have always been a hard worker, but after my husband died I threw myself into my work and earning my Master's, became a workaholic and I'm still struggling with it. :)

Learning is a good thing. Growing is a good thing. Work is a good thing. But ANYTHING that controls us to the point of addiction is an unhealthy thing.

thanks for the responses, i figured that this desire to learn is very double-edged like ugly said, but learning self control is important to survive life haha

Yep...self-control is a fruit of the Spirit, so it's gotta be on the good list ;)

If you are from an Asian background , generally you are so scared of being poor , that the fear is in you all the time, because your parents were struggling to feed you. You then become a workaholic due to your surviving instincts and you can't let go. Unfortunatley we are from this background
