You seem to have all the needed knowledge (I am very happy you know about both sin and salvation!) , it's the leap of faith that is difficult and scary. One thing I have noticed is that if I forget to read the bible or go long without attending church, the devil starts whispering in my ears a lot more than if I hear the word of God on a regular basis.

The bible tells us faith comes from hearing the word of God, so reading your bible is important.
Fellowship is also important, as people can encourage each other. I wonder if you have a place where you live where you can talk to other Christians? It helps to know that you are not the only one struggeling.

I will be praying for you.

Jesus felt like He was dying of sorrow just before He was taken to be beaten and crucified. Jesus understands your feelings exactly as you're having them. He also cried as He was dying, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?" He also prayed for His destiny to be changed if it were possible - 3 times, and as His best friends were sleeping nearby. We know Jesus is perfect. Therefore I see nothing wrong with your faith. You also are not required to die for the sins of the world like Jesus. I do not know whether God wills for you to be healed or not. I do know that He can. And I understand your terror and that dark place. I have seen it. That dark place is like looking out a window and though sun light comes through, the light merely reflects off of your eyes, it cannot enter into your soul, the sunlight is a hypocrisy that cannot be comprehended. And it is like that window is the end of the world. I was terrified and trembling this morning for fear of a thing. And I finally let go of my heart and fell on my knees and contended for the Lord's presence, not being satisfied by the words I spoke, sounding hollow, but I was intent on touching Jesus Christ and wouldn't let go. The first part of my prayer was answered to my desire and God's will, the two were one. I still have residual fear and I await the answer to the second half. Your feelings are understood. For me, God seems to have allowed me to contend for His presence, not as a feeling, but as if I was aware of His presence as much as I am aware of my beating heart and the air that passes through my nostrils. I hope for your comfort. I hope my words will not seem hollow to you.

mike, first, welcome to CC. I pray you find this to be a place of prayer and encouragement.

I couldn't agree with wwjd_kilden more. Do you have a Bible version you like that you can read? The more time you spend in the Word of God and in prayer, the more you get to know Him. The more you know Him, the more you trust Him.

God bless you!

being one that went through cancer...when you are in the middle of all this, it's not hard to question things. You have to take what you know God has done for you and trust that He has the plan for your life. You have to have your faith in the fact that he has that plan and His is ALWAYS for your good. Even if you do not receive healing, your work continues til the end of this time. I've also noticed, if your race is coming to the end, God tells you ahead of time. If He hasn't told you, it's not your time, there is more for you to do.

Peter BEGAN to sink...JESUS RESCUED HIM! He is not letting you sink. Don't look at the waves, look in the eyes of Jesus. Let him hold you above water. I took care of both my father in law and mother in law. One had lung cancer the other COPD. Both are horrible diseases but there is life in both. It took time for all of us to come to grips with what was happening (both at the same time) - BUT we had the time. We had years of good family time and during those years they both grew close to Christ (so thankful). This is an overwhelming time for you and you need to know that you are going through the stages of grief. Family counseling (from a Christian counselor) is so important. Please - for you and your family go.
