I was raised a Christian and on and off through the years have found myself lost. Ive given my life to god but I don't know how to understand all the pain and troubles ive suffered through the years. im 44 years old and after another failed relationship I have literally lost everything and will soon be homeless. I have prayed so much about this but just cant find the answers. im literally down to my last bit of hope and the despair is overwhelming! please, someone help me understand?

My initial reaction to his may seem harsh, but I hope it helps. Have your REALLY given your life to God? Do you study the Bible regularly? Do you attend a church regularly? Who was this person in your last relationship? Was she a Christian?

You see, I feel that God is batting you down because you've not really come to the end of yourself. I know that seems harsh, and I don't know your entire situation, but my gut is telling me that you're not coming clean here.

I'm sorry if I'm completely mis-judging the situation.

This is it.....this is that time you have been waiting for.....the opportunity to prove to God you trust Him......
that you have that faith of a mustard seed......trials are a promise to us.....but if you read on you will find....
how to handle this kind of thing....through trials bring wisdom.....so your gonna be alot wiser when....yes when
you come through this.....God tells us to not panic.......to get up each day with a smile an assuance that God is working on
this....thats what faith is...maybe you dont see that God is moving things around getting things in place for you.....
are you really gonna bail on Him now.....so you get up everyday thank God for getting you out of this mess and
plow on.....day by day....thats what we are told...close those doors you need to close and just trust Him.....
I can honestly say every time I do this it always comes out just right and even better .....peace .....jo

yes I have REALLY given my life to god. yes I go to church every sunday. I try to study and understand the bible. I guess I should have known that I would get challenged on my faith rather than a kind word or some helpful advise. Honestly that kind of response is what pushes people away. so ill just say sorry I bothered you good folks and move on. may god bless you all!

So sorry that you are going through a tough time and it is hard when there is pain in your heart.

I found for myself personally that when I got to the end of my rope and realized that I could do nothing that seemed to help my situation that I cried out to God and said, I can't do this anymore, can You please do this for and with me?

Those are the times I saw God step in and take control of my situation and He fixes things in His perfect timing. I still continue to reach out to Him and ask everyday for Him to continue to help me with the problems that I face and the sin I want to get rid of in my life.

God has never failed me and I know that if you cry out to Him and give Him your life and this problem God will step in and help you with His strength and love to continue on. Keep your chin up and fix your eyes on Jesus. God bless you in you walk with Him.

As you are hanging on to that knot at the end of the rope remember that God loves you so much and He hears your cries. Keep resting in His arms of love and reach out and ask for help if you need it to those around you who know and love you. If there isn't someone close then call home and ask for help. God sees and knows your pain.

No. We can't really tell you why.
One thing i've noticed is that many times people get Themselves into bad situations and then blame God. More often than not that is the case. We make choices and when it doesn't pan out it's Gods fault.
We don't really know what's going on in your life. How much of it is self inflicted vs out of your control. We all always say it's not our fault. And in some cases it's really not anything we've done. But from the perspective we have we just don't know.

But i can tell you, that either way, God never promises and easy life. So many people come to God expecting that God will make things easy. Wrong. God promises to be with us in hard times, not spare us from them. I mean, look at what a martyr is. A person that dies for their faith. How many Christians around the world are beat, tortured or killed for their faith? Jailed.
I don't know why you're going through what you are. May be a mix of different things. Sometimes all we can do is, as you said, tie a knot and hold on until the troubles pass.
Just bear in mind that while you're holding on by a knot Isaiah 40:31 says
but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

Perhaps some self-examination would help? You wrote "another failed relationship". Try to consider the downside to your next relationship by learning from your past failures. We all face consequences to our choices, but remember that your never alone, your God is always with you, and Jesus is your best friend (John 15;13).

"There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it" (1 Corinthians 10;15)

Your story sounds like my story 6 months ago. I am now, with the help of God, picking up the pieces. Having known this kind of pain you will be empathic to others. First, God will put you in a place of rest, and then He will prepare you for what lies ahead. This is my understanding based on my own experience.

Suffering is part if the growing process of being transformed by the Holy Spirit. There is no substitute for being as low as you can go, and finding out God is with you through it all!

"But now thus says the Lord,he who created you, O Jacob,
he who formed you, O Israel:
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you;
I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you;
when you walk through fire you shall not be burned,
and the flame shall not consume you.
3 For I am the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, your Savior."Isa. 43:1-3a

Read the book of Job if you want to learn about suffering. Job was my best friend after a failed foot reconstruction left me unable to walk or talkstalks. I learned more about the riches if Christ during that period than during any other part of my Christian walk.

Here is a good verse to memorize:

"Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us. Romans 5:3-5

Praying God brings you through this and you become a strong man in The Lord.

We are living in a world that is not dedicated to living for the Lord. Can you even imagine what it would be like if everything you do, from what you eat, your morning routine when you get up, what time of day it is so, like Daniel, you saw certain hours as especially blessed and always for prayer, everything you thought and did reminded you of the Lord and you made it into your worship of Him? We know, from Paul's teaching, how using these things in a legalistic way without the spirit of the Lord could keep us from true worship rather than lead to Christ, but with our fear of that, few of us even consider what it would be like to have every hour and every act we perform a part of our knowing God is our King.

We are living in a world where few include the Lord in their relationships, so they are lawless. Terrible things happen in our world today, it is not operated by the Lord. There are still areas where we see Him. I enjoy seeing a bird fly, and know God watches even that bird. I have been backpacking in gorgeous country that I know is still there and when I close my eyes I see the Lord's handiwork. It is terrible hard for me right now in my present life, but even if I should die, the Lord is there to care for me even there. I simply have to endure what the world has thrown at me today.

One day I was standing at the graveside of the person who meant more to me than life itself, watching the casket being lowered. Rain began to fall as if the world was crying with me. And then a bird sat on a limb near me and sang.

As one person said, not trying to be harsh, but have you really become a born again believer? That is the first step. We all need to check up on our lives, especially when things are not going well. Being under attack by the enemy is different than suffering for things we should not be doing, or things we should do and are not.

God's plan for you knows God. If it is his Plan and his will it must happen. The good and the bad both happens, look at HIOB, he lost also i think even more than you and me ever. We must accept God's will. I am just 27 and lost a lot. I was born in the former Yugoslavia, i know the war, it was in my home country in Kosovo, you think sometimes you had to go a bad time. But i tell you one thing. Compare it with a child in the war which gets a hit in the face infront of her mum and dad and then they kill the child infront of the parents. Compare your size of pain to that size of pain. Hope i could help you with this topic "pain" and the other thing. PAIN IS OFTEN TEMPORARY. The Lord is brutally strong and can make you an brutally strong overcomer. Be patient.

I noticed you didn't answer the question "Was she a Christian?". But I consider "giving your life to God" to be different then reading the Bible and going to church. Throughout the Bible people have always tended toward religious activity over righteous living. They would rather sacrifice animals for their sins then just do away with their sins. I think that we as Christians are largely still the same way. Once we have read the Bible and have gone to church for a while we probably know what we ought to do in our lives, but we say that our "faith is counted as righteousness" and say "nobody is perfect" and then read Romans 3:23 and carry on with our day until our next religious event (reading scripture or attending church).

But God says to Israel "Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hates; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them. When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood. Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean; remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes; cease to do evil, learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause."

Within each of us is a battle between good and evil,
what we want to be most we are,
we have to choose,
Chastity or Lust
Temperence or Gluttony
Charity or Greed
Diligence or Sloth
Patience or Wrath
Kindness or Envy
Humilty or Pride.
Justice or Injustice.
I believe we should worship God with our character.
