Ever since the famous recording artist Taylor Swift pulled her music from spotify, the streaming website has only been getting more notoriety. Some may argue that spotify doesn't properly pay their artists enough money and they're absolutely right. However, the truth might be that digital media is nearly worthless with the inclusion of internet piracy. It's my thoughts that Spotify is actually doing artists a favor by allowing more fans to be gained in order to spike concert attendance and revenue. In a world where we're far more connected than ever before, this seems to be the most financially gaining area that artists can hold on to.

Now tell us; are you team Spotify, ITunes, or BOTH?
Also, what was the last album you bought?

I'm on iTunes simply because it's what I have always had. Apparently someone crunched the numbers on Taylor Swift vs Spotify and she still would have made over a million alone through that service. So I don't feel bad for the artists on there. The last cd I got was Blacklisted by A Life on Repeat.

How about actualy CDs?

I feel no sympathy for artists who "don't get paid enough" Particularly because the ones who complain about it most, are the ones who need it least. I'm under the belief that if someone likes a band or artist enough, they're are going to support them in any way they can.

Spotify is free :D :D :D It's kinda nice too because my tastes are super eclectic, and spotify has a lot of the weird stuff I enjoy. Vocaloids, techno, video game music, ect

I actually prefer youtube over spotify. I like looking for a lot of really obscure things, and older bands that are no longer around, and I have a much easier time finding things on youtube.

Yeah I don't use either one. I'm a YouTube person to hear new things. Otherwise I listen to my own music collection.

I haven't bought any music since I was paying for songs on Rock Band several years back. I recently discovered spotify and use it all the time.

Personally I have Lynx Radio. It's my music collection with more than 8,000 songs. The last time I bought a CD was when I wiped out all the christian music in multiple used bookstores in Nashville and Knoxville on my way east to visit Mom. Bought more than 150 CDs. Took a while just to listen to them all and sort through what I wanted to keep. The ones I liked were added to Lynx Radio's playlist.

Speaking of which... it's about time for another used bookstore raid.

One thing about my collection, "shuffle" is a dangerous thing. I have all kinds of christian music in my collection and when you go from bluegrass gospel to christian rap or christian rock it can make your brain do a stutter-step. Same reaction going the other way, from christian rock to southern gospel.

So yeah, itunes is loserville. And with the range of styles I like, spotify's shuffle would make my brain stumble every time a new song came on...

I buy digital MP3s and FLAC direct from artists whenever possible, CDs from bigger artists who don't have an independent outlet. I sometimes use Murfie for hard to get CDs, particularly older music. I avoid Spotify like the plague for everything except for when I'm looking for new artists, mostly because of the way artists are treated through there - especially people who are independent or on small labels. iTunes, on that front, is a better alternative than Spotify.

Basically, if you listening to stuff you enjoy, you should be paying for it. If you should be paying for it, you shouldn't be using Spotify. Unless you are a Taylor Swift, you simply will not be able to make enough money from Spotify on its own to survive (for smaller guys, we're talking about maybe a couple of cents a quarter).

Spotify Premium.

I do not care about storing and owning music files, don't own or buy CDs, but just want the ability to stream a wide selection of music.
There are some great playlists that I follow (Coffee Table Jazz or Indie Workout anyone?), the Spotify Radio section is great for discovering new artists, and i have the app on my phone/kindle/tv, and stream spotify over my car speakers when I'm not listening to podcasts or Saturday morning NPR.

Also, I don't believe in Apple.

i don't use spotify or itunes. like ugly & zaoman, i browse youtube more often, and soundcloud, bandcamp, noisetrade etc.
i've never been happy with the automatic playlist generation of sites like spotify, and it's usually really obscure artists i'm hunting for that i heard about through a listing on a record label or a mention on some facebook group. typically i find someone i like, and then go poking around at all the artists they list as 'friends' or that they are 'fans' of or 'following'

i ain't got a dog in this race.

and the last album i bought was the newest by Vials of Wrath, "Seeking Refuge"
self-described as atmospheric unblack worship-metal. because i met the artist in a facebook group, then heard some of his music on youtube.

i tend to buy physical copies of extreme metal, for the lyric booklets, and to support the artists i'm blessed by.

Itunes is great, if it was 1995.

Apple makes good products, but has a very poor program in itunes.

I use Spotify, and buy the occasional itunes album.

I love Spotify!

iTunes is a pain in the butt if you have a PC and non-Apple items. That said, I haven't used Spotify all that much, I just know that I prefer it to iTunes.

The last album(s) I bought (physical CDs - today) were "Hydra" by Within Temptation and "Soviet Kitsch" by Regina Spektor.

I never quite get the iTunes music is terrible for non-Apple devices, tbh. I have it happily sitting on my Windows 7 machine, and I basically only use it if I want to buy music on it (which is rarely - usually if I can't buy elsewhere) or the occasional TV show. I do agree, for TV and movies its atrocious, because you have to sync the media, and it's just a pain in the butt thanks to DRM. But for music, it's not that stressful - you buy, you download the music, you find where the music was downloaded, and you either stick it in a playlist in another media player, or you copy onto your phone like any other file. iTunes is nowhere near as bad as it used to be, and has one of the better libraries for pay-to-download-permanently music (short of finding the artists bandcamp or whatever)
