Love bands like Third Day...but some of that screaming stuff seems to miss the mark in my view?
one of the best ways i know to talk about it is that it's like a different language, and not everyone can speak or understand it, though the same gospel truth is being spoken by it, and the same Christ being lifted up.
so we shouldn't dismiss out of hand someone who's speaking Swahili or something, without understanding what they are communicating, just because it sounds alien to us.
if Peter was with us today, talking in Hebrew or Greek, what would we think? "translator please!" it's the same way in music with metal, or bluegrass, or classical, or whatever. just because it's confusing to the language center of your brain doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong. you have to translate it to a language you can understand before you can make any sort of judgement like that, otherwise you are just looking at appearances.
i mean, on the surface, if i looked at the original manuscripts of any of the NT epistles, it'd be "all Greek to me" right? but if it was the language i grew up with and understood, everything would be clear to me right away.

Apparently you missed the word 'like' in his opening sentence. He is saying the screaming is life another language. Not that it is. I've grown up most of my life listening to heavier screaming stuff and I have no problem understanding them at this point. Similar to how someone growing up around spanish family members would have a much easier time understanding that language than if you hadn't. Now why I need to explain basic elementary literary tools to an adult I will never understand

I like to think of the story when David was almost naked, banging cymbals together praising Gods name. God said Himself to let David do it, because he was praising the Lords name. If its for the sake of His praise, I dont think its wrong.

That being said, though, God tells us to let our gentle spirits be known, and that a gentle spirit is very precious to Him. I once saw a Christian metal album titled like "To crush the fangs of the wicked". I mean, yeah that sounds pretty cool :p And yeah God is in fact going to strike down on the wicked, but thats not really the way we should see Him, dont you think? We should keep His mercy and compassion in mind.

But, I mean as long as you are praising God and giving Him your love, I think Hed allow it. Though we should be gentle in nature, I dont think that finding loud and heavy music exciting makes you a vicious monster :p

Why are you wanting man's opinion? What if they don't have the truth? Do you draw closer to God when you listen to this music? Do you find peace, joy, comfort, love for others, happiness by listening to this music? Or do you feel guilty, condemned, filthy, depressed, when listening to this?

I personally don't like that kind of music, Christian or not. I like to hear clear the lyrics of a song, not Screaming there heads off like lunatics. thats not music, the music is the element that accompanies singing, with these metal bands, they dont sing, they scream and shout, WHy? the point is what? So they can be heard? I respect people liking different music than I do, but I personally don't like metal. though back in the days before I got saved, I did like bands like Staus Quo, and Suzie Quatro, Yes I know tey were rock bands, and it was different type of rock that we heard today. I didnt choose not to like metal because I am christian, I just don't think that is music. Again I like to heard songs that I can hear the lyics clearly, not screaming and shouting and grunting and barking like a dog in some bands.

Hmm... Third Day is metal? I always thought it was just rock. But then I'm not an expert on genre classifications.

Someone clarify this for me please. Is Third Day in fact metal? What about Kutless (not modern Kutless - old Kutless, back when they sounded good.) Is that metal?

Now I'm gonna have to dig around in my collection and listen to Third Day: Believe, because I suddenly have an urge to hear it.

Flyleaf also happens to be one of the best metal bands with a female lead, period, before and after Lacey left!

Flyleaf is not metal either. Seems people are not grasping the distinction between rock and metal.

Perhaps she's just curious what others think, and not asking what she should do?
And either way sometimes insight of others thoughts and/or experiences can help.

I like Christian metal. I no longer listen to the really dark sounding stuff though, gets too gloomy and noisy
(Also, after being on the phone at work all day, I enjoy silence).

I like Extol, and am amused that when I was a kid, one of the Extol members was part of a Christian group who sung vey not- metal songs :D

I don't have youtube access, but see if you can find it: Børudgjengen : La oss feire livet (let's celebrate life)

Wow! So many great opinions! Here's why I like christian metal. Christian metal isn't afraid to go over to the darker side of things and that's not always a bad thing. A lot of the mainstream praise music, yeah that's great for when I'm in a good "Jesus mood" but when I am in a really dark place those lyrics just aren't comforting, in fact sometimes they can make me feel guilty.

Here is the lyrics to a metal song:
Here I stand,
Nothing more than a broken man

Starring death in the face,
All my mistakes have got a hold on me again.

Here we go,
Another day, another fork in the road,
I never know who to trust,
Will someone just tell me which way to go?

I need a sign, I need a miracle,
I need to know that this is possible.
I've just failed so many times,
Is there any way that I could make it right?
God, if you're there I need to hear you now!

Come back to me love, I forgive you,
Oh how I've missed you (I missed you),
Just know every time you run I'll be right here waiting, yeah!

This is no ordinary love!
Listen up, listen up,
This is no ordinary love!
Listen up, this is unconditional.

I'm so afraid to admit that you're real,
'Cause I'm afraid of what I might feel.
When your words start to come to life,
And it brings my demons into the light,
But I know you're here.
I shiver as you whisper in my ear,
"Child, have no fear".

Come back to me love, I forgive you,
Oh how I've missed you (I missed you),
Just know every time you run I'll be right here waiting.
Come back to me love,
I hope you know I'm always with you,
Oh, I forgive you.

We lose faith in things unseen, unsure of what to believe,
Just dying to be loved when love's right in front of us.
We give up on our hopes and dreams, and let doubt take everything.
The door will open when we realize we don't hold the key!

I tried to save myself but I failed!
But I failed!

Come back to me love, I forgive you,
Oh, how I've missed you (I missed you so),
Just know every time you run I'll be right here waiting!
Come back to me love,
I hope you know I'm always with you,
I forgive you!

I have one more for you. This one brings me to tears because it is so relateable.

Another day she sets foot in this prison, dreading what they'll say.
So much to give, but no one ever listens.
She dreams of running away.
Crippled by the way they make her feel, she takes a look at her wrists & turns to the blade.
It's not a cry for attention if she just wants to feel anything other than the pain.
Everyone deserves to be loved, but they make her hate everything she was sure of!
Every day feels like her against the world.
Now she's afraid she'll never be enough.

No one knows all the weight that she holds when she feels alone.
The memories, they haunt her.
No one sees all the pain she brings everywhere she goes.
She feels they'll never want her.

She dreams of a day when she won't have to cry herself to sleep.
Staring at the scars on her wrists she knows this is not who she wants to be.
Another night all alone with her thoughts, dwelling on the questions that race through her head.
Scared to sleep, scared to wake up & face the day when she can't forget the things that they said.

No one knows all the weight that she holds when she feels alone.
The memories, they haunt her.
No one sees all the pain she brings everywhere she goes.
She feels they'll never want her.

All she wants is someone to notice; so sick of feeling invisible.
All she needs is someone to care.
If only they could see that she's incredible.
She dreams of a day when she won't have to cry herself to sleep.
Is our generation too blind to see true beauty lies beneath the skin?
So ignorant!
Are they too cold, too numb to see the lifelong effects of the pain they inflict?
Is our generation too blind to see true beauty lies beneath the skin?

No one knows all the weight that she holds when she feels alone.
No one sees all the pain she brings everywhere she goes.

Staring at the scars on her wrists she knows this is not who she wants to be.

Oh and I do love Flyleaf but I am not happy with the new lead singer. No one can replace Lacey.

Flyleaf aren't metal, but I still think they're closer to metal than rock. My favorite genre is symphonic metal, but some would argue that's not even metal.
