I am not sure how many musicians and artists we have on CC who are connecting with each other. I have a burden on my heart to connect with fellow musicians on a deeper level to be a mentor and positive influence.

Maybe you have noticed the same thing that I see in the world of music ministry: some christian musicians and artists feel entitled to their position. Trust and faith are sometimes skewed to focus on worldly concerns, such as status, position, talent, fame, and material possessions.

I am not saying that this is always the case, but I think that the enemy uses these things against us as a means of diluting the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The church is often times willing to turn a blind eye to this issue because music is a highly influential aspect of the modern day praise and worship meeting. In the end, it hurts the musicians the most because we start to allow sin to separate us from a strong relationship with God. The farther away from God we get the harder it becomes for spiritual conviction to allow us to repent.

Well, I figure that if I can start a thread here to begin addressing some of this concerns then it may help many young musicians and future spiritual leaders from falling into a trap.

I would really like it if some people would join in on the conversation. This will help me get on the path to identifying some individuals who I can pour into for many years to come. And, I think it would lead to some good learning moments.

Totally get what you are saying! No different, in many ways then preacher's who get caught up in their own ego. This is difficult for us to discern. I was once hinted at to me by a pastor that I sung for my own glory, not God's. I was horrified, shocked, and embarrassed. I didn't sing or share my gifts of music for over a year after that, because I was too afraid that other's would think I was singing for my own glory. I had to overcome what other's might think to serve God. I do love leading people into worship. I believe it is a gift and talent bestowed on me by God, and that it is also an Art, which I put a lot of time, effort and practice into.

I believe that open communication with church leadership (regarding discipleship issues in musicians) is important, as well as opportunities for musicians to lay their egos aside and authentically worship God together.
