I'm really only making this thread because I am bored. That being said.... Do you all listen to secular music as well as Christian? If so, what bands do you like? If not, is there a specific reason you don't listen to secular music?

Hm.... This may start a debate... Hopefully not.

for the most part I cannot stand secular music because sadly today most music like that is about money sex drugs alchohal girls ect. at least the old time music that ppl in their 50's and sixties used to listen to usually have a good taste but mostly I only listen to Christian music, now some could condemn me because I love Christian rock and apparently rock is the devils music? But all I know is that Christian rock is what God speaks to me through the most and it lights my heart and soul on fire

lol yeah... I've noticed a lot of people on here condemn Rock and Metal even if it is Christian. I went to a Christian Metal concert once and it was interesting. Some of the bands asked if anyone wanted prayer or to give their lives to Christ when their set was done.

Music in itself is NOT demonic. It's the content and nature of the lyrics.. If someone sings about rape, torture and murder, then yeah, that's the work of the devil.

My honest answer..... After I was saved I weaned myself off all CCM and secular music. I only listened to sacred music because music was my addiction. I let it drive me, my flesh and I wasn't growing in Christ. I relied on music to feed me emotionally. Fast forward 22 years, I listen to CCM and just recently stopped listening to secular music that I let back in for a couple of years. Again this an addiction for me as alcohol for others. It changes me and clouds my judgment and the only thing I can do is take it out all together. The CCM I listen to now is edifying to me.

I agree. Though i have heard bands sing about some of those things to speak negatively about them.

I don't think i've ever heard that song. But i don't really listen to stuff from that long ago lol. Pink Floyd is the only old band i listen to from time to time.

I actually love a lot of secular music, especially jazz and swing. I don't like screams, metal, some rap, honestly because I don't understand what they're saying :/

used to listen to rock especially when I felt rebellious

I don't actually care to listen to it anymore...it hurts to listen to it and brings up things I would just as soon forget

I am not currently serving in any capacity in church at the moment (by choice) but I used to both lead worship and or be a part of a worship team. I prefer not to listen to secular music if I was going to still do that....and I heartily dislike so called Christian bands that sound just like the world...only the words, which you can hardly make out, are different

so, probably better not to get me started LOL!...ps I'm not condemning anyone who does listen ... just expressing my own thoughts

All sorts.

However, I personally feel the new songs are just re-hash of old/classic songs of the 80s,70s,60s and 50s.

But nothing compares to worship songs, of course.
