Hi Guys!

What I am noticing, and I'm probably not the only one, is that a lot of teenagers begin to dislike psalms, and only want to sing and hear hillsong for example.
I don't really understand this, because like: they have been singing psalms at least since David, so why now change it? My friends all go to these huge events with a lot of christian pop, but for me it doesn't quite feel right. Anyone else here? And if you have a different opinion, can you please explain it? :D

K, wel thanks

It doesnt feel and seem right to me either, but thats how it's been w/ pop things. We were never really those to go to those huge events, but when u know u put ur children to sleep singing psalms and hymns, it really hurt to see them exploring those other things around them incl. ariana, etc. I would not be able to explain it (long ) too, and have no different opinion from u actually.
Btw, try to see soulweaver's works on psalms in other threads.

i love reading the Psalms, and singing them, or songs at least derived from them.
i'd like to see a lot more of them put to music -- why doesn't Hillsong sing Psalms anyway??

It's the music they don't like (Genevan Psalter), not necessarily the text.

Opwekking 518, after Psalm 139

I love the Psalms. I have a huge collection of modern songs composed from the psalms.

I think young people are attracted to the style of the music, not the words. But the words are so important.

I agree totally. It's kind of a challenge I also have to endure, I really like a good beat or melody, but I try to understand the intention of the song and his lyrics. I experienced a way better understanding of the songs :)

I agree the Psalms make amazing lyrics. But my question is: why don't we have more songs written from the Proverbs as well? I mean the applications alone ring out majority of life's lessons and need to be sung!

Yep, we need more but there are actually more Psalm songs than you might think. Especially in german there are many but in English also! :)

OK, yep I love to listen
Hillsongs...
BUT,
I love to listen other(s) kind of musics!
I suggest you to look upon the thread:
Amanda's music.

-------------------------------------

It shows rightly that I don't listen only
about this group, and I didn't put all the songs
I listen 'cause in that way it's enough.

Psalm 1

The Two Paths
(Matthew 5:3-12; Luke 6:20-23)
1Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
2But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
3And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
4The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
5Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
6For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Shalom

I tend to notice notice a shift in the atmosphere when songs go from contemporary to older style songs/psalms/hymns. I don't really think much of the words in a lot of modern songs, they tend to focus more on self (not all obviously), and what I will do, have done, rather than glorifying God alone. I don't know if it's universally right or wrong, it's just my own conviction, nowadays I generally switch off and pray and then sing when I find hear songs that glorify God.
But then at the same time, when we get together, isn't it better that we all sing together in one voice?

2 Chronicles 5: 13-14
13 And when the trumpeters and singers were joined in unison, making one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the Lord, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and other instruments for song and praised the Lord, saying, For He is good, for His mercy and loving-kindness endure forever, then the house of the Lord was filled with a cloud,14 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the house of God.

Now that's what i'm talking about lol
