I often find myself singing songs from my childhood. My family sang constantly. Every road trip It was a time of family singing, there was no radio ever turned on in our vehicles growing up... and I loved it!!
It's amazing as an adult you can understand the lyrics more completely... some of them are powerful. Here is a place I'd like to share some of those... and if you know some, please share. Oh the nostalgia!! :)

For instance...

God Loves a Cheerful Giver
Chorus:
God loves a cheerful giver, give it all you've got,
He loves to hear you singing when your in an awkward spot,
When the odds are up against you,
It's time to stop and sing Praise God,
to Praise Him is a joyous thing!

1.
Peter always made a fuss,
Peter was impetuous,
He knew hard times when he denied his Lord,
But hardly had he fallen,
When he sat right up, began again,
Christ named him the rock
As his reward.

2.
Jonah was a gloomy sort,
He always had a sad report
He ran from God, he ran and he set sail,
His journey ended quite abrupt,
A fish came by and swallowed him up,
He spent three dark and dreary days,
inside that whale.

3.
Holy Job was richly blessed,
He lost it all but stood the test,
For job was steadfast in his misery,
God gives to me, He takes away,
Blessed be the name of God this day,
And he was doubly blessed for his fidelity.

Open Up Your Heart And Let The Son shine In

My mommy told me something, a little girl/boy should know,
And it's all about the devil and I've learned to have him so,
She says he causes trouble when you let him in your room,
He will never ever leave you, if your heart is filled with gloom.

So let the Son shine in, face it with a grin,
Smilers never lose and frowners never win,
So let the sunshine in, Face it with a grin,
Open up your heart and let the Son shine in.

When you are unhappy the devil wears a grin,
But Oh he starts to running,
When the Light comes pouring in,
I know he'll be unhappy cause I'll never wear a frown,
Maybe if we keep on smiling,
He'll get tired of hanging 'round.

If I forget to say my prayers the devil jumps with glee,
But he feels so awful, awful when he sees me on my knees,
So if you're full of trouble and you never seem to win,
Just open up your heart and let the Son shine in.

So let the Son shine in, face it with a grin,
Smilers never lose and frowners never win,
So let the Son shine in, face it with a grin,
Open up your heart, and let the Son shine in.

There is a very basic children's song that we did in Kid's Church. All of the kids lay on the ground and then slowly start to "grow" and stand up tall while singing…

Read your Bible and Pray every day and you will… grow, grow, grow
You will grow, grow, grow…. and so on until you are standing tall and jumping up and down being silly. It's so simple, but so true!

The hymns that I learned as a child and scriptures that I memorized have stayed with me. It's important to pass that on to our kids. It always makes me a sad when I see "church kids" who only listen to secular music.

The moldy used for this song is "Nearer my God to thee"
IT has more verses, but here is one:

Jesus er kongen min, Guds barn jeg er.
Jeg er hans eiendom, han har meg kjær.
Hender og føtter små, allting skal Jesus få.
Jesus er kongen min, Guds barn jeg er

Jesus is my King, I am God's child.
I am his property, I am dear to Him.
Hands and feet (so) small, everything will be given to (/received by) Jesus
Jesus is my King, I am God's child.
