I believe this is a sin... I am a member of a church of Christ and I believe since we are no longer under the old law (Colossians 2:14) we only do things under the new law which doesn't permit us to use instrumental music.... If you disagree please comment?

What new law?
Where do you find a new law that doesn't permit instrumental music?

In the New Testament, Psalms were sung as part of the religious services. In the OT instruments were used as part of their recitations and there is no indication that they were banned in the NT. Further, in Revelations we read of harps being used to praise God. The inference is quite clear that they are ok for religious services.

What does that mean. What new law? Can you be specific? And where does the ban on instrumental music come from?

Suppose you're mute, but you can play an instrument, can you play it for the Lord and inspire others in worship?

Aren't we supposed to use our gifts and talents for God?
If someone has a musical talent with instruments why is it bad to serve the LORD with that?
I guess I just do not understand this thinking...

Revelation 22:18 (typo) says "for I testify unto every man that hearth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book;" (KJV) it goes onto in verse 19 to condemn taking from this book........... I'm new to CC how do I add someone's previous comment to your message?

I play in a band. And many times the Holy Spirit moves during the altar call, which is where we play the most instrumentals. Music is powerful. When King Saul was distraught he would call David to okay the harp for him to quiet his nerves. I believe it still holds the same power today.

If you are mute you sign the song, just because your mute doesn't excuse you from sin(like not having arms doesn't mean you don't have to eat of the lords supper because you can't reach it) ........... Use your gift by playing in public and gathering a crowd the talk about the bible to them or give them flyers for bible study (God won't get glory from you using your gift to the contrary of His word)

When I was a kid I wanted to play the drums. I wanted it so bad that I would sometimes cry watching others that did so with little effort. When I accepted Christ around the age of 16 or so, I started going to a church that used drums in their worship service. Again, I tried to do it but couldn't. I began to pray and ask God for the gift. About a week later, I sat behind the drums and it was like I had been playing for a year.
Since then, God has anointed my playing on a regular basis. I've seen my hands go past me as I was playing and almost not recognized them. Sometimes it's as if I am beside myself watching myself play. ALL glory goes to God, I am not trying to brag.
Now, we serve the same God, would our God give me a sinful gift?
I might add that many churched that believe in music, don't believe in drums. God loves music. To deny or think that it is a sin is just another example of the legalism that Satan has used to hinder true worship and relationship with God.

Perhaps an comparison will answer your question. You used a computer to ask this question. You used the internet. Neither are mentioned in scripture as acceptable means of learning or inquiry. So by your logic, you are sinning. Does this make sense to you? Is it consistent with the character of God as revealed in Scripture? No; clearly not.

A better way to interpret Scripture is to take literally what it literally says, and to take lightly what it does not say. Otherwise anyone can make the Scripture support or prohibit just about anything, because it is not specifically addressed. This is not adding to Scripture, because it is not claiming that whatever issue is addressed; rather it is taking what is clear and applying it with consistency to what is not clear.

I don't know.

I'm kidding of course. Tap on 'Reply With Quote' at the bottom of their message.

If you want to quote a few in the same reply, tap the little quotation plus ( "+ ) spot at the bottom of a post and it will save up to two of them till you tap 'reply with quote' on another for a total of three.

If it is contrary to the bible, which is gods word, which is the law, 1john3:4 (sin is transgression of the law) then it is sin and sin separates us from God(Isaiah 59:2)

Wow, can't believe you seriously answered, but read the question again. MUTE!
Can't talk to them about the bible! Also, how do you sign a melody?
Also, can you tap your feet to the music, or is that considered drumming? Also,
Can you do that thing where you hold one nostril and tap the other while humming through it?
