Lol did you know pianos are part string instrument?
I taught myself pain actually :p

LOL that reminds me there was a guy on Are You Smarter Than. A Fifth Grader and the question was what type of instrument is a violin. The guy said woodwind cuz it's made out of wood xD
You should bring lindsey to cc sometime. Can even have a tutorial for the ppl here. I did have a teacher in piano but so long ago i only remember 1 or 2 lessons. she was a terror, so my sibs said, but whatever the reason, i tried to learn myself. i believe we didnt have enof for lessons too, but there were books and time then, yes and a piano so i managed to waste so much time there isntead of doing more productive and useful things. thats the regret.

My Bestie Lindsey?
I could, I'd have to figure out a way to get that to work cuz I can't post recordings of sound tho.

I think two people on CC have heard me play.
I could just do a written tutorial
I'd be willing to do that, I'd just have to remember to keep on top of it

If saxes weren't so expensive and loud, I would. But you can't sing and play a sax either...

Just wanted to add that they don't have to be played loud. :)

When you first start out your stomach muscles and jaw muscles still have a
lot of developing to do. So at first you have to play loud you don't have a choice.

But then as you develop a 2 pack or a 4 pack depending on which sax, you can
control the flow of air better. Also you can grip the mouth piece properly so you
learn how to play quieter.

There are also different mouth pieces, some have a larger aperture for playing loud,
usually jazz players use them but the sound is harder to Control.

The mouth pieces which are more close up are easier to control the sound with and you
get a more classical sound. Then there is the ligature, the thing that holds the reed to
the mouth piece. Different ones and different pressure plates produce different sounds.

Its all very technical the sax! You have to find the right set up which suits you.

Playing the sax develops those abs and firms the jaw line, reduces wrinkles. Lol
Have I convinced you to try it yet!

This needs to be put in the healthy habits or skin care thread=). I know winds (instruments) need some disciplined breathing, but those i tried do not really require that much (flute/recorder, harmonica). And yes, i believe they can be good breathing 'exercises' as well, for example for elders. I know a friend of my father, who did the harmonica when they played weekends, and i think he did in church too.

I love listening to sax and I was in all my high school bands and got to see saxes first hand and how loud they are and wat they sound like when someone's practicing lol, even if they are muted. Anyway, I've never really wanted to learn sax, but I have wanted to learn guitar for a long time. Maybe one day I will bite the bullet and get a guitar for smaller hands and start learning, but right now I'm happy with how far I've come along with singing and I've always got my drums too. :D

To be honest, one big reason I'd love to play guitar is so I can play John Denver songs at parties... :D

That's a good reason :)
The main reason I started playing the harmonica was so that I could play Cotton Eyed Joe :p
And Take The Long Way Home by Supertramp
Haha wanna make a band??
Lol

I actually really like fiddle and bluegrass now though.
A lot of fiddle music is very pretty and fun to play

YES, Instruments can cost so much. That is why we settled for the least expensive: harmonica, recorder, uke. Not the latter, but i found the first 2 can easily be learned by ear too, although idk. When i watch those who do piano oido, i just dont know how they do it.
