Hey guys, I hope you're all doing well and staying in that Bible. I just wanted to speak a little about the subject of music. Specifically, I want to warn many about the evil potential of music. Now let me start of by declaring that I love music. It is a beautiful thing of nature. But with that said, there is also bad music out there in the world. LOTS of it. Music highly influences mood and thoughts in a unique, powerful way. Satan utilizes this power a lot. One can tell if music gives off a negative feeling or a positive feeling. But sometimes our spiritual discernment is blurred or blinded. So I say this: Be careful what you listen to. The wrong music will lead you to the wrong way of thinking eventually. Just because a band may be called Christian music doesn't necessarily mean that they are truly children of God. They may be Wolves in sheep's clothing. So pay close attention to the message. Pay attention to the way the music makes you feel in the Spirit. Sometimes the Holy Spirit will tell you when there is something you should stop listening to. I will say one thing more, and that is that the music that is praised today and is published and played all around the world is most likely from Satan. So watch out for what you listen to, because it can affect you more than you may think.

Yep, I've had countless times where i've heard music that I didn't feel right hearing or listening to so I turned it off or walked away.

I'm not really into music so I can't say that music affects me in a negative way.

Some hymns scare me with their misleading lyrics. Here's one: On Christ The Solid Rock I Stand.

Full Text

1 My hope is built on nothing less
than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
but wholly lean on Jesus' name.

Refrain:
On Christ, the solid rock, I stand;
all other ground is sinking sand,
all other ground is sinking sand.

2 When darkness veils his lovely face,
I rest on his unchanging grace;
in every high and stormy gale,
my anchor holds within the veil. [Refrain]

3 His oath, his covenant, his blood
support me in the whelming flood;
when all around my soul gives way,
he then is all my hope and stay. [Refrain]

4 When he shall come with trumpet sound,
O may I then in him be found,
dressed in his righteousness alone,
faultless to stand before the throne. [Refrain]

Check out the words slipped in here. Are you unsure? Do you keep your fingers crossed that on that final day you will finally know if you are one of Christ's? These very words belie the title of the hymn. If you are standing on the solid rock of Christ, you ALREADY know in whom you will be found.

This is only one of many songs that express just the opposite of what we have been told by Christ in the Bible. Don't kid yourself that some kind of rhythm or openly "nasty" words will make you start feeling bad. You could already be proclaiming and professing to disbelieve the promises of God in the very songs you sing in church.

ummmm......

I understand the word then to mean 'at that moment'

in other words, when the trumpet sounds, at that moment, may I be found IN Him

dunno.....

I am being naive? :confused:

we all know this

took me a long time to loose my taste for things that are not helpful to listen to

many find the words of rock songs unintelligible...I seem to have a 'gift' for hearing them with no problem...go figure

that being said, I can honestly say that even some songs that I would not encourage others to listen to , have meant something to me and God has touched my heart through them

what can I say

ps...don't give credit to the devil for everything that is not immediately identifiable as what you might consider 'Christian'

you are leaving out the natural ability of flesh...fallen or otherwise...to create...it depends on who gets a hold of that talent

Possibly. I see this as akin to the same things Catholics are always saying when they over and over, ask for things that Jesus says are already ours.

I do understand what you are saying....maybe I understand it the way I do because I 'see' it that way already...I grew up on these hymns as so many have...I would agree in principal with you and add that current songs written by Christian artists are not much better when it comes to stating or including in the stanzas or chorus...cringeworthy notions

music is such a personal thing

Can you give us any examples? I personally listen mostly to CCM music although I know many come to frown at it. However for me it what speaks to me. I know some aren't that Godly yes but some of the music has really spoken to me more than praise and worship songs. I agree though to be careful in music we listen too. I gave up almost entirety listening to worldly musuc. music

It's in the lyrics or visually like videos or in concert, that can make music have a bad message,

Hmm yea I could see that interpretation but I always thought of it as this world is full of sin and it is very easy to fall away from Christ so he's saying more of "I want to be there at that moment of Christ coming" than a question of his personal salvation? Even Christians back-slide they are still Christians (as long as their not worshipping devils after knowing Christ) but just need repentance....

Yeah, that could well be a way to see it.

You know what scares me about music?
(This happens A LOT)

When I go to church, and we sing a hymn about how happy and blessed we are because of Christ
....and people sing it as if it was a chant they were learning for homework

But it's waaay more than that.
Music embodies the emotion that it is made with.
For example: A joyful positive person who is thinking in a positive way, will create happy music if that is his focus.
But in the very same way, a deceptive worshipper of Satan can create music that SOUNDS happy but also is written with evil intentions. All followers of Christ have been given the Holy Spirit, and with it we can discern the energy of the music. Music CAN carry dark vibes even WITHOUT lyrics or a video.
But WITH lyrics, the level of influence over one's mind can become much more powerful.
There is much to watch out for here in this world.
