in one of Ted Dekker's fictional books, the circle trilogy, he writes a ((i think, beautiful)) metaphorical image of our immersion in Christ, where a diseased race of people are healed both physically and mentally by trusting a figure who appears sometimes as a lion, and sometimes as a young boy, who tells them that they must swim into the bottom of a certain pool of water and drown in it. doing so, they are raised new, redeemed, and made whole.

when i think of this '
soaking' business, i think not of taking a long hot bath -- but of drowning in Him, & never thirsting again. it's a bit different conceptually than what i *think* is the ideology behind that particularly loaded term ((although i don't exactly run with any groups that speak that way, so i'm not entirely sure without going to do some reading)).
Thankyou.. before I read up on it I wondered if anyone else had

Makes think of like a trance or some hippie movement.. soaking?? The word bothers me
I find the idea of it creepy myself. Gives me a weird vibe, and when I get that I'm usually right.

Soaking is resting in the Holy Spirit---which empowers people to be witnesses for Christ---practice His presence---if people just soak only, this is self centered not Christ centered...

Hw does that work since we should already be abiding in Him? The Bible doesn't say soak and be empowered.. The lingo trips me up..

Don't mind the lingo. It's just meditating on the Word of God, rather than emptying yourself to be filled with the things of the Enemy (as Buddhist monks etc. do). As such, it's a godly practice.

No worries, HisHolly. Yeah, you're probably right about needing new lingo. I don't understand much about what the young-ings talk about these days. Haha! Have a blessed weekend. :)

"Soaking is a Psalm 23 experience. He makes us to lie down in green pastures and He leads us by still waters. He restores our soul. As part of the restoration process we may find ourselves responding physically or emotionally. We might laugh, cry, or shake as the Holy Spirit works in us."

"The Holy Spirit might give us a vision or bring a memory to our mind that He wants to heal. Often we enter into a deep rest. Perhaps we may fall asleep. Even if we don’t feel anything happening, by faith we believe that the Lord is working in our spirit."

Here is some more about it from The Trouble with Soaking Prayer | Women of Grace

"Assuming that you are talking about “soaking prayer”, red flags went up for me as soon as I discovered that it is associated with the infamous Toronto Airport Christian Fellowship (TACF), the same Protestant revival church that promoted the so-called “Toronto Blessing” aka “Holy Laughter."

How about a description from this site? Gary Oates: Soaking: The Key to Intimacy with God

During our soaking times, we position ourselves to receive impressions, nudges, quiet whispers, pictures, angelic visitations, and supernatural revelations. Here is a partial list of what to expect:

– Dreams (Job 33:14-16; Genesis 28:10-16)
– Visions (Daniel 7:1-3,9; Acts 16:9-10)
Trances (Acts 10:9-17, 11:5)
Out of body experiences (2 Corinthians 12:2-4)
Angelic visitations (Luke 1:57,11-17; Acts 12:7-10)
Being transported in the Spirit (Acts 8:39-40)

So, essentially, we spend hours of our lives doing nothing, not praying, not reading, not studying, not preaching, not in fellowship, but laying around waiting for God to do something FOR us. Lay around in groups. Lay around alone.
It is just another psuedo-spiritual fad that is pushed by false teachers and people who make money on it by selling special music intended to aid in this time consuming act as we expect God to 'do' something. I saw mention of 'emptying your mind' mentioned during my little research.
As one site said, at first appearance it 'sounds' like a good idea, but if you delve deeper into it there is a reason it is off putting. And as i quoted above, they try to misuse scripture to make it sound biblical. Psalms 23 does Not state to spend hours at a time laying down while waiting for God to do something. This is yet another 'me' movement. It's focus is on getting from God, no matter how many hours you have to sacrifice doing nothing to get it except sit there and listen to music.

The first two paragraphs sound about right. As for the Toronto Blessing, they can't just knock something because of the abuses of the spiritual gifts by some in the Church. I'm not aware of trances, out of body experiences, angelic visitations and being transported in the Spirit as being part of soaking. I certainly don't get involved in such things. The soaking I do with Christian friends involves the written Word of God and listening to praise and worship music and singing praises to God. It's a quieting of the spirit before God. Of course, just like anything humanity touches soaking can be for one's own end. But that's not its design.

Brilliant post,Ugly.:)
From reading a bit of the article you posted I can gather that at best this " soaking" business is a fad like the " prayer of Jabez" a few years back and at worst can be spiritually dangerous and harmful.Typical of sinful human nature to want to try and get all mystical and super spiritual ....because plain old bible study and prayer is not exciting enough - to some it seems.

I've heard of dyed in the wool and submerged in the water but I think this is the first I've heard of soaking.

This is music which brings you into God's Presence-----kinda waiting on the Lord---and meditating on His goodness----it can be life changing----- we know what God's Word does to tranform us---- the Spirit does the same...
