So Ive made threads like this here before, bringing up my own problems with getting into Christian music cuz guitarists/singers, unrelatable music stylings, ect. Alot of people here like the genre so I like coming here to see if anyone more knowledgeable than me has an answer : p

But anywho, my all time favorite musician is a melodic bass guitarists, he plays melodies and provides his own harmonies by playing notes both with his fretting hand on the low end of the bass and his picking hand on the high end and junk. Ive been listening to his music exclusively for over a year now, and Ive been wondering if Christian music has anything like him. Christian music always seems to be about guitars and singers, I never really see much outside of that besides the occasional pianist. So I was wondering if anyone knows about it.

This is the bass guitarist Im talking about here-

He is not a Christian : p And while not writing songs against the Lord, he sometimes has some lyrics that can kinda make you wonder and worry, as many secular artists do. Im hoping theres a Christian musician similar to him, or at least a really talented and dedicated lead bass guitarists of some sort, though Im sure the chances are slim as Christian music seems to be more about the lyrics and less about the instruments.
Wouldnt be surprised if this thread got no posts, haha : p

dunno, you might like Demon hunter, they are christian metal.. you might just want to look around on youtube in different types of non mainstream christian metal/ rock bands. What you are looking for is really specific, and you are going to have to search lol.

Yeah honestly I doubt there are Christian bassists like this dude. I'm sure you've done this already but did you try searching everywhere for one like him? I'm not very into Christian music myself. I feel the same way you feel about the whole thing. I mainly listen to pop-punk but the Christian pop-punk bands I try listening to don't really sound that good. I'm trying to force myself to get into worship music. Not really that fun, but it does feel good to know that I'm listening to something that is praising God and I do feel moved by it at times.

I wanted to inform those of you who responded that I did actually find this guy here-

So yaaay there are Christians out there who love bass guitar and take it seriously as an instrument =D Haha.

Id like to see what he could do with a standard four string though : p But still, this is a step in the right direction and has given me hope : p

This guy has a very interesting style; I like it, and can certainly see
why you do, too, but how can you listen to only one musician exclusively?
Haha that would bore me :D Oh, the lyric, "your ashtray face" what??? LOL

I dunno : p I was excited when I first learned about him cuz he played his bass guitar the way that I wanted to as well. And he was really good at it and people really liked it, haha. Every group he plays in, the focus is on the bass guitar, as his playing makes up most of the songs. Theres alot of baseless stereotypes with bass guitar, "it should only be played as a rhythm instrument", "it cant play lead", "you cant play chords on a bass guitar" ect ect. I always thought those were dumb comments as I could do more with mine, so it was really great when I found a successful musician whos doing just that : p

Also I really like his playing style, and his songs really hit me the right way, so its a win/win : p And I dont like literally listen to just him exclusively, these past few years Ive been really into Sigur Ros and Mogwai too, I just dont listen to them nearly as much as him (he has three different bands so theres plenty of music to listen to anyway : p)

And haha yeah, think its a break up song of some sort : p I like Robs lyrical style, Im not real picky about lyrics and generally take a while to actually listen to them but he has some really cool lyrics sometimes, like a unique way of saying something I mean.

Haha Ive actually seen that video a few times before yeah : p Its always great to see a bass guitarists who actually plays their bass and treats it like an instrument, over occasionally plucking root notes on the E string : p

Those hands, haha. Especially that picking hand, couldnt come close to doing that myself : p
