I was wondering what people think about Rock, Hard Rock, Metal, etc. Christian bands. I like the rock genre and I was wondering what people think. I have heard a lot of people think Christians should not listen to metal etc.

I have also heard about bands that have faked to be Christian when really they weren't. Most of them being in the rock and metal genres. I have heard some bands that have swore in some songs to make them "more real". But on the other hand I know some bands like Disciple and others that preach at concerts, and i have never heard anything "questionable" in their songs

But let me know what you think about it. I do enjoy rock and metal, If anyone has any song or band recommendations I would love to hear them too. Thanks :D and ROCK ON!

It is written "make a joyful noise to the Lord." It is writtento us allsorts of instsruments.

If the rock is joyful and reverant, wonderful.

Anyu music without faith, hope and love would be juist a racket... you know.

Here is what I think, and please note I am 92 years old and also listen to a lot of people who say I'm wrong.

I think all art reflects the spiritual awareness of most of the people of the times. In ancient times it was more of a chant I have been told. You can spot Handel's music in the 1700's by it's simplicity and harmony. Some of the Bachs introduced more complicated chords. By the 1920's music became more discordant as a reflection of a more discordant society.

Rock started in Harlem and even he name came from the sexual act. Handel's music appeals to the spiritual side of us, if we listen only with our physical needs for physical movement (not sexual) then we just can't really hear it. As our life became more fleshly, so did our music.

At the same time, there is "dancing for joy" that is of God. There is the wonderful feeling of love that music can express, also of the spirit. I've hiked to a mountain top and looked out at such beauty that music only could express.

There is a band called "demonhunter" I think. I was told that it was a Christian band. The cover and symbology is most definitely satanic. The music itself makes my soul disgust, I am certain they will not be performing their earthly songs or music in heaven. I don't think the angels would rejoice to screaming and yelling accompanied by a symbol of the face of Baphomet.

any idea what their songs are about, or are you satisfied with making a judgment & condemning them based solely on the appearance of an album cover and your personal inability to appreciate a musical genre?

I for one judge screaming and yelling as screaming and yelling and I judge satanic symbols as symbols of Satan. If these are present I would not want the name of God associated with them.

Demon Hunter are bold Christians. Their logo is a demon with a bullet hole in its head (demon Hunter). Pretty obvious if you take more than a glance and don't already have bias before looking at it. But that's how people operate. They dislike or disagree and then approach it with an attempt to be proven right. Which entirely discredits your opinion because you aren't looking for truth, but to be right.

I've been listening to Christian metal for almost 30 years. My favorite pastor is a metal pastor, in his 60s. His genuine joy and compassion shines through his enormous, gentle smile. Even through the long hair and tattoos. More so than the crusty, frown lipped vibe of the closed minded biased types shining their judgment here.

People think that some artists being fake is evidence that the music is wrong. But by that logic every position held by church leaders discredits all if those positions as well.
The number one reason given, by seminary students, further desire to be a pastor? Job security. Not God. Not a calling. Not a desire for ministry.

In Any aspect of ministry there are going to be fakes. Or those not living up to the position. This is an issue with the individual, not the position they hold.
Oops, I let logic into the argument, rather than manmade tradition and personal bias. Sorry Pharisees.

Just curious, what's wrong with screaming or yelling in a song?

I no longer like the dark, screaming stuff, but I used to :D

Speaking of that... I haven't looked for new music in ages... got any recommendations for symphonic metal? (preferably instrumental)

Everyone has different tastes in music. Not everyone is going to like the same style so why not there be a style of music that a christian prefers. Genre doesn't determine whether something is holy or satanic. It's the content and meaning that matters. People just judge a book by it's cover and without getting to the heart of it. Look at the lyrics before judging it.

yes, this

I hear and my insides tremble
My lips quiver at the sound
Rottenness enters my bones
I tremble while I stand
As I await the day of distress
To come against those who attack us
I will rejoice in the Lord
Rejoice in the God of my deliverance
The Lord God is my strength
He will set my feet like the deer
He will let me walk upon the heights

his most recent album is exquisite

From the lead singer of Demonhunter:

Demonhunter is a christian band. They are open about it and are not ashamed to label themselves as a Christian band. Their names is basically hunting demons to kill them in Jesus name. Don't judge someone before getting to know them

I was looking into it today for gym music. I had no idea that flyleaf and skillet were Christian bands. Very cool. I'm all for it. I even got some Christian rap to go with my gym list. In my opinion it's all about the message, brother.

I tend to like songs that focus on Jesus, his sacrifice on the cross, his love, and how we are loved, Jesus' return to earth etc. The closest I come to liking Christian hard rock is probably bands like Casting Crowns and some songs from David Crowder Band album " Church Music". I probably would not like to much metal as it sounds too angry and I have trouble understanding the lyrics. I used to be into harder rock songs but now I have mellowed out mostly.

If you like flyleaf. Lacey Sturm who was the lead singer has made some solo music with her husband. Look up Rot by Lacey Sturm. Definitely my favorite of hers yet

When you said that you like bands that talk about Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross, it reminded me of Crown Of Thorns by For Today, it definitely sounds more angry tho haha.

The reason the Lord does not like it is not because its a sin its just that its not very good music. Everybody knows Jesus loves EDM.
