what are ur thoughts on it?
here's what my friend says about it in general: The body of Christ puts itself in a bad situation if we feel like we have to become like the world to win people to Christ. I never saw Jesus, Paul, or Peter mimicking and making worldly stuff "godly" in order to get souls saved. God has His own way of getting people saved and it never involves transforming the gospel into something else. If the gifts of the Spirit and the power of God flowed in our lives then people would come running. But the fact is that it doesn't because that requires deep consecration. It demands much prayer, fasting and word study thus we have to find creative ways to reach people because it's easier to do that than to fast often. It's high time for us to be consecrated and going after God with everything we got. Then we will see the multitudes come in.

The Gospel includes letting you become whoever God made you. So use the kind of music you like to worship God. That way you'll get closer to Him, and then the world will be able to see it better.

This type of music is not of God, I will let the word of God convince you not me and my weak opinion!

1Jn 2:15 Do not love the world, nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him,
1Jn 2:16 because all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
1Jn 2:17 And the world passes away, and the lust of it, but he who does the will of God abides forever.

Joh 15:19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, in order to prove by you what is that good and pleasing and perfect will of God.

Col 3:1 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is sitting at the right hand of God.
Col 3:2 Be mindful of things above, not on things on the earth.
Col 3:3 For you died, and your life has been hidden with Christ in God.

Isa 5:20 Woe to those who call evil good and good evil; who put darkness for light and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!

1Jn 4:5 They are of the world, therefore they speak of the world, and the world hears them.
1Jn 4:6 We are of God. He who knows God hears us. The one who is not of God does not hear us.

These bands mimic the world, and are lukewarm in what they stand for, IF they were to preach the truth calling all men, everywhwere to repent or perish, come out from the world and its vain atttractions, and count the cost of following Jesus on the narrow road they would be out of a job, and if all the professing Christians who support these worldly musicians stopped supporting them and obeyed God, then they would not be popular.

The true church is suspost to be an example to the world, far seperated from them in all forms, not seeing how close they can get to the world and still be called a Christian.

The true church is a seperated, peculiar, a holy remnant, that has no desire to follow those who mix the holy with the profane!

God owns music, all kinds - they're one of his blessings to us. As we have fallen, any genre can be used for good or evil. Even classical, Tommy. But if we must go back to history, African slaves would sing praises to God while they laboured. They suffered greatly and God was their only hope. From their songs and stylings to God, evolved what is now known as rap and rock.

I posted something of a similar nature in a different thread so thought I would share it hear too. Some Christians tend to have an incorrect perspective of music, which can be put down to their personal human understanding, surroundings, and other limitations.

First and foremost, God is the creater of all things, and music is one of those things. Every form of musical sound(including rap, rock) imaginable, is known to God long before humans discovered it. Nothing is new under the sun to Him who has made all things.

Rap and rock (from a human discovery point of view) are simply a progession in music that fuse the sounds of various other musical elements. Just like many other musical styles that have come before. Nothing more, nothing less. How it is presented by the people who play it dictates its direction for good or bad in my opinion.

Certain music styles are not everyones cup of tea, and thats because God made each one of us different(thank goodness). As christians we should respect that.

I can honestly state that the same genre of music has taken me to every place in my mind imaginable. I liked the lies rather than loving the truth. Now that I understand this I see the beauty in all genres of music! Even country which I thought lacked in depth now has endless meaning to me! It's a wonderful feeling and music has opened many of Gods doors that would otherwise remained closed to me. A shout out to Gods voice through music! :)

I personally don't agree with christian rap, rock, salsa, hiphop or any of those degrees. It's because when I hear the music the Holy Spirit that God has given me let's me know that it's not.. something that touches my heart.

Wow....Really? This argument? Im a huge Christian Rap fan (AMPmovement, S.o., Triplee, ect.) And personally I read the lyrics and most of the time they are stronger and deeper than anything i hear on 'christian radio' [by the way i cant stand most of that music] Along with the testimonies of the guys who are in the underground scene even going past Rap to metal and hardcore. I know of a ministry called Hope For the Rejected (Part of YFC) They minister to the hardcore kids who feel rejected by socetiy and by people like you who argue that this music isnt christian.
God can use who ever and what ever he wants to spread the gosple who are we to limit what kind of music he can use?

Are you saying that we should just go back to guitars, flutes, and lyres like they had in David's time? Those are the only "Biblical" things. ;)

Just because something has a more intense beat/musical tone doesn't mean that the lyrics, artist, and listener can't glorify God. :)

That's funny, i've felt the Holy Spirit through many of these kinds of music. God has used Christian rap, metal, and other types of music that are not popular and mainstream to teach me, guide me, in worship, and encouragement. So no one is going to convince me it's wrong. I've been listening to these things for 23 years and have not once felt any guilt, conviction or that anything was wrong with it.

i think people go overboard when they come off saying "being like the world" I rap the gospel its what I do. ive always had that artistic way of lettin my emotions out. Now that i live for the Lord i artisticly spread his message. Its not for my glory but for His. See being like the world would be like i got friends partying so ima go to the party get drunk and preach Jesus. That's being like the world. It isnt what is being done that saves people it is people understanding the Gospel of God and is the power of God manifesting from seeds that we plant. And this rapper "Andy Mineo" said it best he said "we can have beef on the methods/ as long as we agree to reach peeps with the message" Collosians 4 says to pray for an oppurtunity to preach the gospel, so if i gotta chance to hit the stage and perform theres my oppurtunity to spread Gods word to whoever wants to hear it. So its not what we do its what the Holy Spirit is doing.

You know when you go outside on a clear night and you see the stars and it's like the most amazing thing you've ever seen? It's so amazing you just feel like God wrapped all around you and you feel amazed, excited etc cause the sight is just so amazing? It's like that too when you hear good music... but everyone has their own opinion of what that is. I hate rap and hip hope, can't stand it... but I love rock and metal. Right now as a matter of fact, I'm listening to Kansas' Miracles out of Nowhere. Not a Christian song per se but dang if it isn't a good one and just touches you in some personal/emotional way. And I thank God that it's there cause IMO, it's just so amazing to hear... which makes me anticipate how much more amazing the music in heaven will be. But that's me. Different music speaks to different people and if it's positive, then it's gotta be from God cause there is nothing good or positive that comes from evil.

I love Christian rap/Hip hop. Sure some songs by artists do not Glorify God. Those are simply the songs I don't bother listen to. Lecrae is a great Christian rap artist to give a try. His older stuff is good. I like them all except Church Clothes, a free album geared more toward "the world". There are many types of Christian music. We should not limit ourselves like to the style of Christian music. As long as we glorifying God in the end we are good...100+ years from now all music is probably gonna be different. Today's Christian music will probably be in the "old hymns" of the future...

Music belongs to God and not the world.
When we take rap/rock or any other kinda music and use it to send a message about sex, drugs, money and so on
Then it becomes worldly. But if we take it to send a message about Gods word and who he is. Then it becomes a tool to Glorify our Lord.
God gave many people amazing talents. How they use them is up to them but those who love God use it to glorify him.
Teens like rap and rock. What better way to tell them about God than to do it in a way they will like , take to and understand?
I'm all for rappers, actors, dancers, singer, bands that do it for Gods glory alone.
If it can bring people out of the world's darkness and into the Lords light then why not?
