I dont understand all the hate, the song really has nothing to do with beer, it's asking if you could sit down with Jesus over a beer and ask him anything..................

We know he drank wine, so really no different, he was also a carpenter and a traveling preacher, so as blue collar as you could be, what would you ask him? if you had just a little while to sit down with him and ask him a few questions? the disciples were lucky, they got to sit down at the table and drink wine with him, and ask him questions

I would want to ask why my daughters mother took her away,
why I never met my grandfather,
why my best friend had to die from cancer, and another who has kids is suffering so badly from it

what would you ask him?

I would ask him these questions;

Lord, if we are to become immortal, then what was ever the bigger picture in us being born having not sinned, then learning sin, then all the pain and everything else? What was the point in us having a mortal life at all?

I would ask him, 'Jesus, why does it hurt?'

I would ask him 'Why did you give me all that I have, yet some have nothing?'

I would ask him does he like Carlsberg or Harp first of all ...

Ahh nice to meet you Schmelga. You'll do.

I'm your friendly neighbourhood Irishman, of course. Don't worry, I'm not a serial murderer ... well ... on the weekdays ..

I enjoy long walks in the sunset and bright lights. *change subject quick*

Are you a fan of post modernist art?

The problem is that some Christians are against all alcohol. And yes, i know that bible doesn't say drinking is a sin, and that's not the point. The bible also says there are something things that some people will find wrong, and others won't. Drinking is one of those things. So, the song title gives the impression of a Jesus sitting around drinking beer. That alone is enough of a turn off for some people.
And while, yes, Jesus may have drunk wine, it was always in context of an event, a party, a dinner, etc.. Never do you hear of Jesus sitting around Mary Magdanlines drinking casually. Personally i don't care for the title, and even your description of sitting around drinking a beer with Jesus.

the song really has nothing to do with beer at all, it's common for people here in the south to sit down over a beer with friends or family, when they want to have a serious discussion, you could say you would want to sit down and share a coke with him, the song would mean the same. The song is about having the chance to sit down with him and as him some questions that are on your mind. I quit drinking in 91 but I still understand the meaning of the song.
