Maybe you should start another thread? Where only music you approve can be posted up. I thought this thread was for everyone to post up what they like, even if we all disagree..please don't try to dominate it with people hoping you both would approve of it or be shunned and criticized. Learn to accept and appreciate where people are at, not all have the same taste in music and not all of us will agree what is good and bad, personally myself i don't like most christian metal, especially mainstream but if others like it, joy for them.

Come on people. You guys are picking the most overrated, overplayed, overproduced christian bands ever. Seriously. Do yourselves a favor, and listen to something that has some intelligence and some actual inspiration behind it. Horde, A Hill to Die Upon, Extol, Lengsel, Armath Sargon. Anything, please. You're killing me and Ugly and Deborah with your incessant posts about AILD, Demon Hunter, and that other crap that Facedown and SolidState try passing off as metal.
Ouch man. Ouch.

Almost seems like you feel that if it's main stream it's automatically bad, right?

But here, don't have an anuerysm. This isn't from any of the labels you mentioned.

And another... also from the same youtube channel as the last one I posted. I hope that doesn't make me a poser just liking someone else's music.

Who is this King of glory?
The Lord strong and mighty
Who is this King of glory?
The Lord mighty in battle

Blow the trumpet in Zion
And sound an alarm in my Holy Mountain
Let all the inhabitants of the island tremble
For the Day of the Lord is nigh at hand

A day of darkness and gloom
A day of clouds and of dimming hues
As the morning spreads upon the mountains
A strong army wipes away the land

A fire devoureth before and behind them
Burning everything, nothing shall escape them
They shall run like mighty men
They'll climb the wall like men of war

The earth shall quake before them
The heavens shall tremble
The sun and moon shall be darkened
And the stars shall withdraw their shining

The Lord himself leads the mighty army
That day brings a great fear in the hearts
His troops can't be stopped nor wounded
Who can abide it?

Therefore also now, saith the Lord
turn ye even to me with all your heart
with fasting, with weeping and with mourning
Rend your heart and turn
unto the Lord your God

And another.

This unending cycle
Swirl of uncertainty
Will be the death of me and cease my spirit to rest
Wall clouds of deceit descending down upon this shattered heart
Remnants of what once was alive to bleed
Infinite wisdom ceases to exist inside this realm of hate
Have I become this numb to the one who loves?
A whirlwind spun of fear
Sirens echoing claustrophobia
In the distance you hear how this was designed to desecrate all that you've ever known
Uncertainty become me as I wander aimlessly
I must break free
Destroy these chains that bind me
Create a storm to change my world
I know your grace still abounds
I know your well still flows
No matter how far I may stray
You are right there to lead my home
Rotation
Held by God's own hand
Rotation
Revived from shame

I never said they were mainstream, and I'm not hating because they're popular, I just think they're hideously boring and way overrated.

Not hating, just stating the same opinion that has been shared by me and others several times already.

Oh some of them are pretty main stream, to the point where the message is watered down.

The trend always seems to be they gain a following and then start diluting the message more and more with each album.

That's one of the bigger issues I have, though in a lot of cases the message was watered down to begin with. Look at the lyrics of modern christian metal and hardcore bands now, as compared to how they were to bands like Unashamed, Focused, Strongarm, or Extol. Those bands made absolutely no mistake or question as to what their beliefs were. Lately though, with many bands, the message is more hinted at, or described vaguely, and what's sadder still is in some cases christian metal bands have completely abandoned Christ centered lyrics for bashing churches, and telling people their sin is fine because that's how God made you (just look at the lyrics to the most recent August Burns Red).

I do love the music I listen to because it avoids being boring, and actually has some thought into it. I also love it because the bands involved in making it treat it more like a ministry than this overwhelming heard of metalcore musicians looking to make a buck. Antestor is probably by far the most popular christian black metal band. I can guarantee they've probably sold less albums than a modern metalcore act, AND they were physically attacked by a group of satanists for their beliefs...and yet they keep moving. I messaged back and forth with Armath Sargon for several days on facebook, and absolutely everything that man does in his music, from picking names, to writing, to recording, he submits in prayer to God. Do you know how many likes on YouTube the video I shared has? Yesterday it had 2. Yet the guy has more albums out than a lot of bands.

A lot of these bigger bands, are writing music for the music, and watering down the message simply because someone might look at them the wrong way, and I can guarantee if they're complaining about something in their career, it has less to do with the people they're reaching and more to do with what part of their contract isn't being fulfilled. Yeah it's a big deal, but a far bigger deal is the fact that they are losing sight of the people they should be reaching and exchanging it for a lie.

Yeah. Water it down too much and you cease to be a Christian band at all don't you?

Where I think it went wrong was when people in the Church started using Christian music as a substitute for secular music. You end up with a derivative work that the youth pastor can tell some kid "okay this is like (insert band name here)." But, when you do that, you can't put too much scripture or too much Jesus in it or it might offend this young Christian's delicate sensibilities. Then they couldn't play it for their friends and tell their friends how hardcore Jesus really is because this music says so.

Then you have others who realize there is money to be made at this. They take it even futher. They decide to find a band with wishy washy lyrics and hold them up as this paragon of Christian virtue, and market the crap out of them. They make a lot of money at it but a few albums (or maybe only one) later you have musicians in the band who say "we were never really a Christian band, we were just Christians in a band", or even worse they say "yeah, we just signed because it was a label." I'm sorry, the label should yank their contract.

We took music - one of the best ways to reach someone, and we neutered it.

And yeah, the metalcore stuff is, unfortunately, what everyone is looking for, so you end up with a lot of very watered down lyrics. Not all of it, but a lot of it is.

That's why I'm a huge Nodes of Ranvier fan. I do tend to like the genre, and every disc they produced became more and more overtly Christian. Defined by Struggle was... It was just a fantastic disc. You know from the first track where the book of Job is paraphrased and choruses of "blessed be your name" get mixed in that it's something special. I think I posted this in the "the devil has entered the church" thread. It's a step above everyday metalcore too, I don't know how to quanitfy that, but it just is.

I never got the warm and fuzzy feelings out of Haste the Day or The Devil Wears Prada (two very popular acts) that I got out of Nodes of Ranvier. Haste the Day had a good style on Pressure the Hinges but the lyrical content wasn't overt enough, and DWP has one CD with two songs that really stood out to me as standing for anything. Nodes, their last CD was all about strife while following God, and the CD before that was about drug addiction.

There was this band too. I love this band, they really seem to nail the message part well. Again, it can actually be called Christian music. Psalm 23 and Romans 8 with drums and guitars. What's not to like?

[3x]
We will not
We will not
We will not
Be afraid

We will not
We will not
We will not

We are fearless
Fearless

We bear the mark of the uncreated god
So what should we fear?
We bear the scars of the holy risen son
So tell me what should we fear?

Every threat is hollow
Because our victory is already set in stone

We are the fearless ones

[2x]
We will not
We will not
We will not
Be afraid

[2x]
Though we stand in this dark valley
We will not be afraid
For we know that you are near

You are near

I can feel the courage rising
In the hearts of the sons of god
I can feel a fire burning
Across the earth we stand as one

We are not dismayed by the darkness
That surrounds us here
Because we know that when all hell closes in
If we stand and fight we are not alone

Though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death
We are not alone
We will fear no evil for you are near

We are the fearless ones

[2x]
We will not
We will not
We will not
Be afraid

[2x]
Though we stand in this dark valley
We will not be afraid
For we know that you are near

You are near

He can't stop the kingdom
You'll see him bow at the throne on judgement day
So let the devil come

We are fearless
Fearless

So let the devil come

i'd like to share a couple songs from his When Love Is Dead album but it's not posted anywhere online.
good stuff. he worked on the new Elgibbor album too, i think (?) this makes the first out of over a dozen albums that Elgibbor will have someone other than Fire playing any instruments.

♥ Reneascent too!

this guy has released or co-released a lot of Christ-focused metal & industrial music under various guises. He's really blessed with a talent & heart for this; i'm really thankful that God has these men out there =]

Uh oh... this is on Facedown records.

But, this progressive. As such, you need at least two tracks in a row to get the full experience.... So check it.

I'm not calling this metalcore. Yes there are melodic breakdowns, but no, it's not metalcore. It's progressive metal.

I am wasting away
The desires of my mind left
A shameful path walked by a man
Surely unworthy of grace
And I have no one to blame
And no one to take the pain away
Ive had my life
Hit the bottom multiple times before my eyes
So Im left wasting away, wasting away
But Im supposed to believe
That I can be saved
When the life Ive lead is so despicable
Can I push the limits, be accepted for the things that Ive done
Behind Closed Doors
For Ive lived a life that Im ashamed of
Will I be forgiven, or abandoned for the secrets I keep
Behind Closed Doors
Never had I imagined Id seek forgiveness
And be accepted
Like I had never committed these sins
As I lay filthy, disgusted at my own reflection
I slowly I wonder if Ill ever end this suffering
So I bide my time
And I lie awake at night
Then I close my eyes
And wonder if Ill ever wake up
Its been too long now
Since I could believe
In places for people like me
To have their sins washed clean
Its been too long
Since I believed
Can I be clean
Its been too long

I long for the coming of chapter 2 to bring an end to this cycle of back lash. I wonder if anyone got that reference.

But yeah, like I said you need two tracks here. They are 12 minutes well spent.

How could this be
That out of the darkness
A light has been cast upon me
And what would I do
If my own irreverence
Forever kept me from the truth
Ive watched the aging face
In the reflection stare at me
Watching hour by hour
He affords no sympathy
Ive tried to dim the lights
To avoid accusing stares
But he always finds my eyes
And reminds me who I am
Ive felt the hand of mercy
Reaching down for me
To pull me from the trenches
To calm the stormy seas
To wash me in the waters
To cleanse me in the blood
To start my new becoming
And vanquish what I was

Part.... three? Yeah three tracks in a row, they really do have to go together too.

And... A piano??? More singing.

And the guitar is way too technical. This almost feels like... progressive metalcore, but no it just isn't. I don't know what to call it.

The entire album is a ballad. There are breakdowns with slick riffs and sick drums, and then there are almost orchestral influences (minor ones admittedly).

And... part four??? I've been listening to this disc this morning... keeps getting better and better, I'll stop sharing at a fourth track though. Oh and there were several before this string too.

Now there's a synth in there. What are these guys thinking? They must know nothing good comes from Nazareth... err I mean FaceDown (sorry Zao couldn't resist).

So we've got riffs, drums, pianos, synths, bouts of singing and bouts of screaming.

It's power metal meets metalcore meets symphonic.
