Why is it considered evil? Well because many rock/metal hands have indeed sold their souls for the talent they have. I highly recommend watching the documentary called "They sold their souls for Rock and Roll". And the messages contained in some of their songs are satanic and lead people away from God. But for a True Believer, there is no possible way for them to be lead completely away from God.

I listen to Metal and Rock more than any kind if music and I love it, I even play it myself on the guitar. But that is not to say I sold my soul for my talents. I thank God for the ability He gave me to create music. Sure, if you are not spiritually discerning, the chances are high that you will be mislead and commit acts of unrighteousness. Which is another reason to thank God for the ability to discern things. Discernment will benefit you greatly if you're dedicated to living in the Light. I make light of everything I encounter, except the things that are purely evil, stay away from those things at all costs[:

My advice is this: if you are a spiritually discerning believer, stay true to the faith and you will be fine. If your faith is weak,.. Consistantly pray for strengthening because even the slightest bit of evil will distraught your spirit.

Rock music is not peaceful elevation of worship for the adoration of God
it is showing off self.

I certainly don't think rock music is of the devil.

But bands don't help themselves by choosing the band names they do, or the names of songs or names of albums or even the album artwork.

I'm a massive rock fan, but I can certainly see how other people can view it lol

Nothing wrong with the music itself, its the lyrics that sung with the music. Music is music, but if you add demonic, sad, evil, devilish lyrics to the music, then thats when it becomes bad, and wrong, through Christian eyes. and that demonic grunting voice in rock music? what all that about? Can you understand it? When i listen to rock music, i just listen to the music itself, without the lyrics,

So nothing wrong with rock music itself.

I think if the music makes you feel good inside then there is no problem with loving any kind of music. Perhaps if it makes you feel as though you want to do awful things you shouldn't listen to it. But music is just that - music, it cannot bring out an evil intention if one is not there.

Heres the thing. I understand fully all the impacts music can have on a human being.. and I understand a lot of rock, metal, grunge etc. music does not worship the Lord. But what I don't understand is why christians continue to say even christian rock is bad. Personally I love rock, my favorite christian rock bands are ones like nine lashes & red etc. but I really don't see anything wrong with them. I would love to hear others opinions and perspectives on all this.

a string on the guitar was rumored to conjure the devil in the old days, that is what i was told on a music forum thread about religion.

Rock music? uh, sombody has not listened to the radio or seen any music awards in the last 10 years..RAP music is the rage and most of it is not only explicit, but it declares women as meer sex objects. Excessive cursing, vulgar lyrics and much worse have gone way beyond what rock music ever did. Why has this NOT been addressed? Because such a high percentage of young people accept it as the NORM. We do not need to go retro and dig up the old rock music versus pre-Bill Haley and the Comets material. The American airwaves are full of sexual innuendos, explicit, suggestive songs, most in the top ten hot billboard selections, sadly....boyz!

i agree with you !
and i notice that all the wickedness you're pointing out is in the lyrics and the lifestyle perpetuated by the lyricists, and how it's loved by the world. not the music itself, but the message in the songs and the way the messenger walks.

did you know that in that same style of music there's now a generation of God-fearing men and women singing about the truth of the gospel and rapping about righteous lifestyles and reconciliation between God and men through Christ?

it's the same conversation at the heart, and it's about whether any genre of music itself is intrinsically evil or if it can be also used for good :)
