Heres the thing. I understand fully all the impacts music can have on a human being.. and I understand a lot of rock, metal, grunge etc. music does not worship the Lord. But what I don't understand is why christians continue to say even christian rock is bad. Personally I love rock, my favorite christian rock bands are ones like nine lashes & red etc. but I really don't see anything wrong with them. I would love to hear others opinions and perspectives on all this.

I actually prefer christian metal bands, and to take a breather, bands such as the ones you mentioned. To me it says more when I hear someone scream Jesus name with passion than quietly sing it in a church song, or amid a bunch old styled language in hymns whose words you can barely make sense of.

You'll find a lot of arguments against christian rock have less to do with any biblical basis and more to do with the persons opinion. Some just find rock in general and everything associated with it (christian or not) evil. Others just find the loud music distracting (which is understandable), but believe since it's distracting to them it must be distracting to everyone else and therefore ungodly.

There have been numerous arguments on this site about it, and these are just a few that I have encountered and dealt with.

People have been saying that Rock 'n' Roll is the devil's music ever since it first hit the mainstream in the 50s with Elvis and his hip shaking, pelvic thrusting dance moves.

I listen to a lot of rock, metal and music of that sort, a lot of times I have been convicted to not listen to certain bands. I trust that the Holy Spirit knows what is edifying to me and what is detrimental.

I find nothing wrong with rock music. I was and still am a huge fan of Elvis. The one's who tend to find something wrong tend to believe it is bad because of the culture it was associated with...sex, drugs, the hippie and liberal movement...pretty much anything against conservatism. They are also against certain musical cords because of them being "Satanic". But do not worry, the majority of Christians do not hate rock music :)

God is so diverse that I am sure He loves ALL music that worships, praises, extols and uplifts Him. He loves the diversity that we are as humans, so why not the music that brings Him praise and helps us to seek His face more. ;)

The only thing "satanic" about music in & of itself is if you are stupid enough not to give credit where credit is due. God created ALL music...he is life he is everything. Satan was charge to gather & give all the hymns & praises of all the other heavenly angels unto God & when he decided via his pride that he should be able to share in the wealth so to speak is when the corruption began...not the corruption of music or worship unto God..but his own personal deconstruction. I think that's why many think that music other than "hymns" or "churchy-esque" music are born of the devil. If anything...is corrupt,it would be the hymns most sing in churches, not let's say something by a band like Red,Tourniquet,or Deliverance,Stryper,Out of the Grey,lol...see where I'm going with this? Anyhoo...let's not box the almighty in...we all know what happens when we try & do that.:)

I must say if the song bring praise and glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. The I humbly say it's okay. but, the danger is, that it sounds so much like the world that many will accept secular that is to say demonic worship. We are commanded as believers to come out from among them a be separate. Just for me I can't worship while banging my head or watching some dude destroy his guitar. If that's for you then work out your own salvation. I will sing "Oh how I love Jesus"and "the blood still sets men free" and "amazing grace" The most anointed songs I know.

oops...i enjoyed secular rock music...mainly just because its strictly better produced than most christian bands. Also it doesnt help when christian bands now sound like three days grace from 2-3 years ago...

Some years back I couldn't stand listening to rock and metal, then after a friend introduced to to Metallica, I suddenly found Christian metal when looking for more music :D

I was lucky enough to catch these guys on their Farwell tour. It was amazing. Good music, great testimony.

Not every rock song is a worship tribute to satan, calm down. As I stated in my post, I get more out of my worship when it sounds heavier and there actually seems to be an ounce of passion behind the vocals.

A fusion is conceived / Through a synchronizing Faith
Exposing forces unseen
This is the embodiment of Love

Growing, the image of a man appears
His limbs are injected with power
The heart of his mission is peace / And deliverance

Stronger, his body increases with strength
Absorbing a Godly nourishment
The members work in one accord / Reaching the fullness of man

A Structure of Souls / Bounded by one Spirit
A union of hearts / Saved by the same Spirit

We are the members of / The body of the Son
We are the Church of Christ

Freedom is to be our destiny / Due to the eternal grace
That comes from the Author of Life / The one and only God

These are lyrics from an evil rock band just so you know.

Oh man..I am seeing this post now. I wish I'd read this one first before I commented on yer' other post on my heavy metal/industrial music thread, where you mention about ac/dc. I never would have bothered to make the comment I did,as now after reading this here. I'm in trouble now. LOL (and just for the record,I find ac/dc one of the most boring bands ever, satanic or not)

There is nothing wrong with the genre. It is considered evil because it actually sounds good so it is classified as "of the world." Look at all those who oppose how much just Christian Rock alone has done for people. The usual response has something to do with a beat or something along those lines.

I think that Christian bands that are considered "evil" had an agenda, which was to attract our youth who are lost. I would much rather my kids to listen to heavy metal or whatever it is called being sung by Christians than other bands that truely are evil. 1 Corinthians 10:23-24. you need to ask yourself if this music is truely giving God glory and blessing others. Your young and your music choices will most likely change as you get older. Believe me I know.

Over the years I have listened to a huge variety of music. From Barry Manilow (still and always will be my favorite!) to Trans Siberian Orchestra to Queen and Styx to Josh Groban. I came to the Lord 4 years ago and found SOS radio and AirOne and listen to them almost exclusively now, when in the car. My son, 18, likes some of it, though he complains there isn't much variety, it all sounds similar and they do tend to play the same songs all the time. My main focus is on the lyrics and what is being sung about. When my son commented that "they play this song every time I get in the car" I replied "Maybe God is trying to tell you something because I haven't heard this song all day." Classic Rock is his favorite.

I have had to explain some secular lyrics to my daughter, 13, and why I don't want her singing them, but for the most part we listen to a little bit of everything.
