Nothing thrashy or symphonic about Extol. They've always been progressive death. Their new album is definitely a must either way, much more melodic than their very early works. Immortal Souls is a decent christian metal band with melodic elements too.
i wouldn't say there's "nothing" thrashy or symphonic about Extol -- "inferno" for example to me has a really thrashy riff and definite symphonic elements ( violin solo?? ). can't argue with the "progressive / technical death metal" assessment at all though. on The Blueprint Dives, there are some very melodic songs too. i'm not too good with sub-genres though so defer to your judgement.

a couple years back, 3 of the Extol members put out an album under the name "Mantric" -- this is very progressive / melodic, less brutal than a typical Extol album. i perceive you're a fan, zaoman, if you haven't heard this, you definitely need to check it out. you know there was a second Lengsel album a year before that, too? good stuff.

Stavesacre may be worth checking out for fans of killswitch engage, too. don't know why it didn't occur to me earlier.

Mantric has a new album they're working on. Basically it's all Extol members that weren't original members. Lengsel I follow on FB, I don't listen to them much, but I try to support as many christian extreme metal artists as I can.

Mantric was never really a Christian project, from what i've heard about it. But not a fan either way.

I'd be very hard pressed to say it's not Christian. The lyrics are pretty straight forward, and the band makes it quite clear what their religious stance is on their Facebook page

I'm wondering if anyone knows some good melodic christian bands. It's one of my favorite genres and I find it so uplifting in a way, but I thought I'd try finding some christian stuff. If you know any good bands/songs post some links and suggestions below.
Thank you, brothers and sisters, and Christ guide you.
Immortal souls, and Dagon are two that I think of, that would be considered melodic or more 'melodic death metal'

Killswitch Engage, Raunchy, Kalmah, Midnight Realm, Satariel, Shadows Fall.
Killswitch Engage - My Curse (Official Video) - YouTube here's one of my favorite killswitch songs as an example.
Kalmah..melodic goodness..

KSE,bueno too..

Hmm..sadly divinemetaldistro seems to be not really a distro anymore..I would say that those recommendations are good..and,hmm..perhaps Darkness before Dawn? even though they are more 'metalcore' with some symphonic and minimal melodic influence..

Tons of 'unblack' metal out there, and some good 'death metal' and obviously metalcore..still thinking..if i get anything more in my process of brainstorming I will let you know

I don't think these bands are Christian, and I don't think Christian music should be in this category, sorry.

Good for you, just let the heathens burn in hell and ignore their existence, that's the way to go.
