Have you heard of the band Switchfoot? I hadn't until I ran across this blog from Christ the King Community Church in Bellingham, WA. The band members are Christians but they don't feel compelled to sing Christian songs. This link takes you to a blog posting that explains why.

Do you think they are obligated as Christians to proclaim their faith in their music?

they do still sing christian music... the only reason they changed their label is to reach more non-believers :)

no they arent obligated to sing christian songs. That would be like saying christian teachers are obligated to teach in christian schools. What good is preaching to the choir?

Well, many non-Christian children/teens attend Christian schools (at least here in Australia). But I understand what you mean.

Switchfoot can show their faith by living it, through their actions. They don't have to sing "Jesus", "Lord", "salvation", "grace" etc. to be Christians.

Didn't say (or mean to imply) they had to sing Christian themed songs to be Christians...or vice versa.

What's important with music as that people writing it are honest. Just because a band is made up of christians doesn't mean they should or have to write "christian songs" (which I may add is a very vague term to begin with). If they truly are christian they won't have to force Christ into their songs, the influence will be evident.
