Re: Like Dub-Step, Sick Beats, & Electronica...but wanting to keep it Christian, too?

Honestly, if I had the equipment I'd make more stuff like this, though I've never quite considered it more than musical noise, good to listen to when you need something different, but overly processed and without a real value system otherwise.

That having been said, while it might be easy enough to imagine coming up with in one's mind, putting it together is the hard part. for instance, for autotune of this caliber to work properly one must have at the very least something called relative pitch, which is something that requires immense ear training, especially if you're learning it later in life. Autotune is nothing more than a computer guessing notes based on a musical scale that is assigned ahead of time. If the vocalist hits a note that isn't quite on the scale, the software or plugin will correct it to whatever it finds is a possible match based on that scale, which leaves a lot of openings for error, since not all possible notes are used in any one scale, but the voice is not restricted to what it can sing.

it gets even worse if the person trys to sing with the intent of flowering their vocals or adding character or style as is the case with blues vocalists to sing in a particular way to showcase emotion. Pitch correction software isn't smart enough to know how to handle such matters, and while the techies can step in and snap the notes to their proper locations it's not a practical solution.

Truth is that many of the people who have been made famous through autotune can actually sing, but they've been taught by the record label to hate their voices because it makes money. It is not, as many people believe, a tool that can make anyone a great vocalist.

And that's just part of the process in this case. Beyond that there's compression, reverb and chorusing effects, volume leveling and equalization, filtering, unwanted noise suppression, looping, mixing, not all in that particular order, and only the job of those involved in audio production.

to conclude, while I have a decent setup for the time being, I'd never attempt to produce anything of this complexity on it, since most of my equipment is better suited for live performances and kind of old at any rate. Anyone want to fork over some $20000? I promise I'll make more of this as soon as you do, along with any other ideas you might have!

I still think that Celldweller has made a nice blend/transition from industrial-metal stuff into electronic-dubstep. Mind you,he's not really "Christian" any longer. Circle of Dust was more political that Jesus centered, but he had moments where songs were blatantly God - centered.

This is my face when people remix Christian Contemporary Music with contemporary dubstep and consider it "more Christian" than vocal-less electronic compositions.

how about when they mix it with some obscure Italian Christian martial-industrial/ambient-doom music?

"REEEEEEEEEMIXXXXXX"

Nah, I'm all for remixes, especially those obscure Italian ones, but if anyone considers any of it to be more Christian than instrumental EDM, my face stays strong senpai.
