HI THERE!!
This is my first time to ask an advise about music, and i remember this Christian forum. i know there's a lot of talented son of God we have in this world. same as me when i was a child i'm very love singing but i never use it or show it to other, because of my being little introvert behavior, but inside of my heart i really really want to be singer like my beloved Mother but i disappointed her to continue it through me, until i forget it.. but when i became Christian i saw many Christian Vocalist, they are singing for God, and i realized i really want to sing also for God, but now i Don't know how, my voice became crack when it comes in the high pitch..
:confused:and i easily hurt my throat after one song, cause i don't know how to sing from diaphragm. oh i'm sad for that.
so, can you help or advise me what should i do? pleassssssse...

Hi gladz, Singing to the Lord and leading others in worship is a blessing to God, your congregation, and yourself. I am a professional voice instructor, so I will try to give you advice. It is difficult because I've never heard you nor seen you sing, but here are a few hints.

The reason your throat hurts is because there is a great deal of tension. Here are some tips to avoid that. 1) Make sure you are not lifting your chin while you are singing. A lot of people who want to sing to God will often lift their face to the heavens, but that causes EXTREME tension in the voice, so make sure your head is level straight ahead when singing. 2) Make sure you are relaxing your jaw and allowing your mouth to open while singing. When you keep your mouth more closed, it causes tension in your jaw which translates to your throat. 3) Try to keep your tongue forward and down while singing. Obviously you have to move it to make consonants, but we sing on vowels, and every vowel should be made while the tongue is in a lower position.

Regarding your breathing, there are a couple of things you can do to guarantee you are "breathing low" (from your diaphragm). Lay on the floor on your back with your knees comfortably bent up (leave your feet on the floor). stretch your arms out to your side so they run straight from your shoulders. Then take a deep breath in. Chances are, in this position, you will ONLY be able to breath low (meaning your stomach only is moving -- not your shoulders). From this position, you can do a lot of breathing exercises -- I like to use hisses or breath pulses.

So that's my initial advice. Again, without seeing or hearing you, that's the best I can do.

Good luck and God bless!
