Bit of an ironic statement really ...

The reclassification of the internet as a utility will stop business paying for better speeds etc, and stop the ability of providers curtailing free access to the internet. Perhaps read up.

I'm assuming that this video just went over your head by so much that you were left dumbstruck and then decided to post this. What he is proposing is literally the best possible option for the internet.

Unless you're a money-hungry incorporated internet carrier, what Obama is proposing is good news.

See this article for both sides of the debate over whether to treat the Internet as a public utility (the article itself is against it, and the comments contain very good rebuttals for it). Also this one for inter-country comparisons and a more detailed argument on why declaring the internet a public utility is a good idea.

As a run-of-the-mill consumer, I'm all for net neutrality.

Attack the policy, not the policy-maker. Ad hominem arguments aren't helpful.

don't let yourself be deceived by the whole "Obama bad, Republican good" mantra.
that's partisan talk, not informed talk.

he's not always wrong, and his opponents aren't always right.

Partisan politics is the most poisonous thing to happen in this country. People pick a certain side of an issue without really doing any true research on it. It's all knee jerk reaction based on what political party you support.

He's NOT always wrong? well..............dunno about that one........but seems to me the list of "wrongs" far overshadows the list of "rights."

The other guys aren't always right is quite true.......in fact, they barely stay ahead of Obama in the "right" column in my opinion........

ARPANET - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Advanced Research Projects Agency Network (ARPANET) was one of the world's first operational packet switching networks, the first network to implement TCP/IP, and one of the progenitors of what was to become the global Internet. The network was initially funded by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA, later DARPA) within the U.S. Department of Defense for use by its projects at universities and research laboratories in the US. The packet switching of the ARPANET, together with TCP/IP, would form the backbone of how the Internet works.

Wouldn't worry too much though, the right to google and post stupid stuff on the world wide web is protected by the Firsteenth Amendment...................

Have not watched the video, but the news is saying that this will allow those with the most money to buy the biggest band width which will slow down service for those who cannot afford the band width.....so....

Makes me think of other things our Government has done like the following....

In the 50's we could grow enough food to feed the entire world x amount of times over.....now through CRP land and the government paying farmers not to plant to keep the prices high we have to import a high percentage of what we eat.....

We have enough oil under the Rocky Mountains to fuel our economy, provide hundreds of thousands of jobs etc. for the next 100 plus years yet we import oil from other countries.......

So.....not real positive of things our government does and or will do based upon numerous actions of the past.......

Its such a shame that politicians and policy makers have to contend with the media and general public. Obamas policy will do exactly the opposite of what you say. Making the internet a public utility means it cant be monopolized, nor can access to it be charged at separate rates for different sites by different providers. Essentially, it keeps the internet free. Please get educated.

Indeed. The U.S. now imports 17% of it's food: USDA ERS - U.S. Agricultural Trade: Import Share of Consumption

And a study by the Rand Corporation estimates the sedimentary rock in the corner where Utah borders Colorado and Wyoming holds about 800 billion barrels. That's three times the size of Saudi Arabia's oil reserves... enough to make the U.S. the oil capital of the world: Squeezing Oil Out of Stones in the Rocky Mountains : NPR

As for Internet freedom, I'm definitely against government taxation and bureaucratic and criminal justice department intervention. And historically, this is exactly what happens once the government interjects itself towards controlling something. The first thing to go will be the level of free speech presently enjoyed.
