Thanksgiving has been established as a national holiday in Canada on the second Monday in October and in the USA on the fourth Thursday of November.

Thanksgiving is a commanded practice and is the will of God (1 Thessalonians 5:18).

Psalm 100 A Psalm of praise [with thanksgiving]
1 Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands.
2 Serve the LORD with gladness: Come before his presence with singing.
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God:
It is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves;
We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise:
Be thankful unto him, and bless his Name.
5 For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; And his truth endures to all generations.

Funny how we usually only hear about the 1st Thanksgiving when all was well..........If people want to know what it really means to be thankful, they should learn about what happened on the 2nd Thanksgiving.............(in the US)

The Great Work of God: Rain - A Thanksgiving Meditation

This blog post by Pastor John Piper of DesiringGod.org has been around for a few years but it's a classic and has enduring value.

Link: The Great Work of God: Rain | Desiring God

But as for me, I would seek God, And I would place my cause before God; Who does great and unsearchable things, Wonders without number. He gives rain on the earth, And sends water on the fields. - Job 5:8-10

People can be thankful every day. Thanksgiving is just an institutionalised date.

Agreed. People can be thankful every day.

IMHO, the USA has enjoyed a net gain of much during its relationship with the UK over the course of four centuries. Hopefully, there have been some win-win outcomes in the relationship. Thank you.

FYI, in the image of events of 1621, I observe that women are central to the action including the young one at the front, right.

Heh the one time I went to Canada when I was a real little kid we actually ended up there during their Thanksgiving Day unintentionally. It was pretty nice. We went to Niagara Falls, Canada side, this was back in the 1990s, and its kinda amazing to think about now in the post-9/11 world how we just simply drove there for the weekend and came back on little more than a whim.

From what I can remember they seem to have different food traditions for Canada's Thanksgiving than here, but this might also have been because we were in a hotel so maybe the hotel was just going all out for the day. The hotel served everyone a free meal of lots of good stereotypical, but amazingly high quality Canadian consumables such as smoked sausages, french toast, the ever-famous Canadian bacon, hams and steaks. I like my turkey and cranberry sauce, but Canadian Thanksgiving was still pretty nifty in my opinion. I suppose as an added bonus we were at Niagara Falls (Canada side) so having a Thanksgiving feast with a view of some of the most epic waterfalls on earth was quite a treat to be thankful for indeed.
