8 children were stabbed to death by a (Church going) Mother in Cairns.
What does it matter that she was church going? Besides, the article linked does not substantiate that.

7 of the children were hers. One friend sleeping over was also stabbed to death.

Did you even read the article? It clearly says it was her 7 kids and her niece.

Ages ranged from 1.5 to 14 years.

I've heard that Meth (Ice) was involved.

Anyway, these types of stories, regardless of where they happen, are always sad to hear about. One has to wonder what snaps in a mother's head to the point where she could kill her own children.

The only specific Church named but not necessarily hers...

Ben Mitchell, Cairns president of the Church of Latter Day Saints, told a quiet and sombre gathering at the community centre that everyone was wondering why the tragedy had happened.Ben Mitchell, Cairns president of the Church of Latter Day Saints, told a quiet and sombre gathering at the community centre that everyone was wondering why the tragedy had happened.

I put that there, because the usual response is that a person like this wasn't a Christian. I've read a lot on the case, because it's in my home town.

The piece is wrong, in a sense. Theya re not blood related. Many TI/Aboriginal people will call friends of the family uncle and Aunty. I know from the interview with the father of the girl.

From what I heard she was struggling with an ICE addiction.

Yeah I seen this a few days ago when it happened and chatted with a very dear personal friend who lives close to Penrith about this.......tragic for sure and one thing I will say is that NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would savagely murder their own children and niece in cold blood.......crazy for sure....!

Very sad reading about this. I work at a low income school in an area that has a lot of meth addiction and the large amount of child neglect and abuse due to drug addiction in our area is staggering and heartbreaking. So many of the parents in our community suffer from this.

Ok, I understand that national news articles can leave out a lot of information that locals may be privy to, I've seen it happen with stories that have originated here.

Thanks for the clarification
