The changing face of death - BBC News

There are few things guaranteed in life. Death - along with taxes, as the saying goes - is one of them. But what we die of has and is continuing to change.
A hundred years ago, infectious diseases were the scourge of the nation. As the 1800s drew to a close, more than a third of all deaths were caused by the likes of small pox, measles, cholera, tuberculosis and diphtheria.
Now, thanks to medical advances - and vaccines in particular - the burden of infectious illnesses has been reduced significantly. Smallpox has been eradicated.

you have never taken a pill or a drug for an illness ie from a doctor, had an operation in a hospital, had the flu or a cold, etc.lol

its the tax payers, that are complaining about the cost of treatment in the uk , we dont pay for drugs or hospital treatment.
yet because of the increase of population ,there treatment bill, will continue and rise each and every year, yet still they are blind to these facts , yet politics is trying to make cut backs, yet the population is still growing.

ie each year it will cost more. if the population is growing. blind eyes ,cant see common sense. lol

God gave us the ability to prolong our lives. If we want to "stick around" for the purpose of continuing to serve Him, and He allows it, why should we refuse to take measures to do so?

I'll try to respond to the last 3 responses to mine in one post. Yes I have taken medicine in the past, and had one surgery when I was younger for a broken jaw (baseball related accident) and another one on my big toe (baseball related as well) And of course some medicines for pain and such do work to ease the pain no doubt. But I believe by scripture that we cannot prolong our life no matter how many meds you take. Keep in mind the Spirit of God is Life, and man cannot reproduce it or have power over it, to retain it, or keep oneself from dying.
Ecclesiastes 8:8"There is no man that hath power over the spirit to retain the spirit; neither hath he power in the day of death: and there is no discharge in that war; neither shall wickedness deliver those that are given to it."

I believe there is a great deception going around that man can "save life" which means man has the power to retain the spirit of Life. (Gods Spirit) So when it comes to Life threatening things I don't worry because of being sealed by Gods Spirit I know I am eternal in Him and in His Love.

Just a couple of years ago I put my faith to the test when I suffered agonizing pain from my gallbladder. And if you ever suffered gallbladder pain you'd know how really painful it is. They compare it to child birth and heart attack pain, but the only thing is if you give birth to a child the pain tends to stop. LOL

Not with gallbladder attacks, they can last for up to 20 hours at a time and you can have them every few days depending on the situation. I suffered it for 2 years, with attacks coming every other week or so, but I was determined by faith not to go to the hospital. I knew if I went to the hospital they would remove my gallbladder (normal procedure) and I would be left with about a $20,000 dollar hospital bill.

During these severe attacks of excruciating pain I would ask the Lord to either heal me of the problem, or just take me out, as I was ready to go either way. LOL But the problem persisted for almost 2 years until one day I was just sitting out in the woods hunting and I felt something burst within me, which I thought oh boy here we go!....it's the end. LOL But what happened was, (or so I suspect) what ever was blocking my bile duct from my gallbladder (gall stone) finally broke loose and I was fine after that, and have been ever since with no other problems.

Now most people wouldn't endure that kind of pain for that long, but I did it to prove to myself and to God that I'm not afraid to go. And I feel the same way today if it comes to a terminal illness like cancer or something like that, why worry if you are saved? That, and I truly don't believe we have the power to prolong our days if it is not according to God's will, so why worry?

Now I was with you during one of your attacks, well, not really with you (with you) but I recall the one gallbladder deal and that you were in quite alot of pain. However, you are okay with taking something to help it pass if you could right?

Roses Dad, passed on his sofa, he hated doctors, and he passed from a liver thing, but from she told me (who studied nursing) is that he started to hold fluid and the doctors would seek to remove that fluid (by procedure) and she said but the fluid being there should alleviate the pain (really) whereas doctors see the fluid retention as another symptom to fight, and so draining the fluid brings on more pain, which in turn requires more pain medication. Its like one thing they do causes another thing and each thing is as some kind of symptom which costs more to tackle or something.

Whereas he just let it go and the fluid build up (being a buffer) actually helped with the pain that it not become worse and he died peacefully she said. I forget what exactly he had, but Rose has diagnosed people even me (right on) with things, without ever seeing me. For example, right before my stroke, she saw it coming and called it on a forum before quite a few people, she is very perceptive that way.

The same with her children, one of them (her little girl) was one of the first to live as long as hers with short gut syndrone (who is now married and has a child of her own now). She refused giving her child to the state (at that time) and prayed to the Lord and did something so simple in accord with the instruction of the Lord and it worked. I'll never forget her words (she always repeated them to me) and they only made sense to her (at the time) which was tht the Lord said to give her more but give her less (in her feeding tubes) which was the opposite of the what the doctors advised her, but it meant to dilute what it is you are feeding her and dont give it as often (as the doctors had prescribed). And she lived beyond all expectations of the doctors (surviving it) and with less pain, because their measures were causing the child more pain and the Lords instruction to her took that away.

You recall Rose right? I have known her for many years, she has some real life things such as her son Nate who was born with problems both children outlived the life expectancies placed on them by doctors and Rose went around them (when it come to care) when she doubted them in respects to her care of them. And per the Lords instruction (to her personally) as she attests to the same, her child was the first (in such cases of short gut during that time) to live at all past their youth and into adulthood.

Truly amazing really, God is good, and you know my story already, and it isnt really some success story in one sense but true non the less, that when my daughter went in for her heart surgery (to live past 40, or so they said) that surgery was what? $50,000? Or something similar? Only for her to die of a virus after her sixth birthday, and so even I see that the surgery was completely unecessary, no one can tell you how long you will live really.

Alot easier to refrain from doctors (yourself) then it is to impose the same on someone you love though in things, depends I would suppose, but I understand, I have had a large lump the size of a golfball on me and have for many years, but I refuse to be scared of having it or going to have it checked up on. Although I have grown more and more to be afraid of (and distrustful of) doctors, I still have the same thing and what it does is neither here nor there with me.

I am a wuss with pain though, I dont think I could do a birth pain deal, I only had ten minutes of pain with my birth experience and all I can think of is how on earth do women do that for longer then ten minutes? (lol!) And God not giving me more then I can bear (apparently) gave me a short period of time in that whole experience, but I never got to the place where I forgot the pain (in that very brief period of time) its all so backwards in my own experience.

Sometimes we just run across the weird, and that would include me too.

God bless you

i was born into a medical world, there has always been doctors and hospitals.(ie it has alway been free, uk) yet i sometimes wonder if the usa and the other countries, that charge for medical care, understand the burden it has on the poor , that cant afford medical insurance. i also believe in the power of healing. etc

Yeah, I remember chatting with you one time when an attack just started. I remember I told you I didn't know how long I would be able to chat before the pain became too unbearable to sit still. LOL Boy am I glad that episode in my Life is passed, thanks be to the Lord for sure! And though I didn't have anything for the pain, I did find some home remedies that helped ease the pain when an attack would first begin. I remember one thing that helped with a gallbladder attack is drinking apple cider vinegar (gross right?) Lol But it did help with the extreme stomach pain, IF you could keep it down. LOL

I also believe those grapefruit and Olive oil flushes also helped in the process, that and a lot of prayer. And yes I remember Rose, how is she doing by the way? Is she still posting over at CF?

And as for you dear, you are always in my prayers. Peace :)

Yeah I cant stomach swallowing apple cider vinegar I tried, it just wasnt happening. My sister told me to try brushing your tongue with a combo of the same vinegar (and baking soda) that it tastes yucky but its like the best mouth wash (for fresh breath) and it SO IS! I'm so glad she told me about it. Its no listerine taste but works.

Yeah, your remedies sounded awful (I was feeling for ya for your remedies LOL!)

And I talked to Rose once this year, received a letter from her a few months ago, I have not seen her posting at CF, although I havent looked because I know she didnt feel like participating on the forums anymore.

She's a beautiful soul though

Im glad you have been doing well and havent had any more bad gall bladder experiences since then, I had worried night and day over you during that time never met a man who refused care for something like that as I have known quite a few who have been hospitalized because of the same, and like I said Im just a wuss with pain, like my tolerance isnt that great for it LOL!

I'm comforted to know I am still in your prayers (even as you should know you have never left mine).

Our God richly bless you InSpiritInTurth, the peace of Christ be with you as well.
