I live in the south. Tennessee as a matter of fact. Only 15 miles from Pulaski where the KKK was founded in 1865. It's interesting that today Pulaski(Giles County) is primarily a liberal/democratic area. No klansmen live there. Every now and then a group from Alabama will come march around their town square, but no violence happens. The last time the KKK showed up in my town was 1989, and not a single violent act happened. I am NOT defending the KKK, there are a terrible racist group but it is obvious that even in the place where that group was born it is no longer a place of racism. Afterall the Klan was started by only 6 confederate veterans. Nathan Bedford Forest is the one most famous for starting the klan, and slaves actually fought alongside him in the the civil war. Forest also tried to disband the organization after it developed into violence.

What is interesting is during the birth of the KKK the confederate flag was NOT used as a symbol. Even today that do not accept the flag as their main symbol. A blood dripped cross is. Is a cross racist? They also use the bible. Is the bible racist? Or are these sick misinterpretations?

A few more factoids.
The Confederate Flag was never the official flag of the confederacy. It actually became more prominent after the war ended.

The flag actually became seen as racist during the civil rights movement. Not the civil war.

The flag is protected under the constitution.

She was proud that her ancestors fought to keep slavery. That says alot about her stance on racism. If you have relatives that fought for the south during the civil war that is nothing............I mean nothing to be proud of.
My great great grandfather was a confederate soldier.

As I said, I had great-great-great grandfathers who fought on both sides. I'm sorry you feel this way, because as I said in that lengthy earlier post, the South was not the instigator, and the war wasn't about slavery. I'm proud of my CSA g/g/g/grandfather, and I'm proud of my union g/g/g/grandfather who was a captain in the artillery.

The war was fought on a false premise and, given time, slavery would have disappeared from the South in another generation. It was already waning, because of industrialization. Had the North not been secretly fearful of the South's innovation, trade inroads, and business acumen that was outstripping the performance of the northern industrialists, the war would have never happened.

We'd still have racism, however, because it was fomented not by slavery, but by Darwin. And the northern academics ate it up.

Abraham Lincoln and the rest of the union soldiers did not genuinely care about slavery itself you are right. That doesn't change the fact that the south was FIGHTING TO KEEP SLAVERY.

Evidence shows Lincoln ended slavery in hopes they would be shipped back to Africa.
He also supported segregation, and did not like interracial marriage.

I know that you believe that, but you are wrong. Most of the CSA soldiers were from families who did not own nor want slaves. They were fighting for their homeland. Why do you think that the people of the south today readily serve in the military?

"This flag, while an integral part of our past, does not represent the future of our great state," the second-term governor said, in an announcement that drew thunderous applause and cheers."

Umm, the American flag today neither represents the great past of this nation...I guess that's next?
Right again!

Slavery was part of it.

States rights were a bigger part of it.

The civil war wasn't over slavery. It was over control. The states lost and the federal govt. won.

Turns out the Anti-Federalists were absolutely correct.

If people think the north wasn't racist their hugely mistaken. The north did not support civil rights. The north hosted the biggest race riot in history over the draft. New york terrorized blacks. Even burned down an orphanage during the riots. The south has had this huge stereotype since the war that we are full of racism bc we had slaves. Not true. I've lived in the south all my life and I know more God hating atheists here than I know racists.

If the south was fighting only to keep slavery, and the Confederate Flag represents racism, then please explain why racism exists throughout the Northern and Western states today, since they (meaning Northern states) were fighting against slavery. I can assume only they wanted to continue with their form of racism, and bigotry as seen today.

They're bitter. They're also very isolated and very drunk.

And they have little-to-no political clout and that's why they're silent.
