FBI setting up command centers to monitor terrorist threats over July 4 weekend

The FBI is establishing command centers around the country to monitor any potential terrorist threats around the July 4 weekend, a federal law enforcement source told Fox News.

The source said while there is no specific, credible threat surrounding the holiday, its symbolic nature offers a potential target for terror groups like ISIS. Authorities are particularly concerned about soft targets like shopping malls and other areas where there are large gatherings of people and rather light security, according to the source.

While the FBI is saying there is no "specific, credible threat," the fact they are activating command centers around the country is an unusual move. Other holidays of the last few years have caused heightened alerts, but not multiple command (and potentially, emergency response) centers. And ex-CIA deputy director Mike Morell says the threat is "imminent."

Warnings like Friday's advisory of potential attacks against the U.S. during the Fourth of July weekend are routine, says CBS News senior security contributor Michael Morell, but said "there's nothing routine about this particular one to me."

"I wouldn't be surprised if we're sitting here a week from today talking about an attack over the weekend in the United States. That's how serious this is," Morell said Monday on "CBS This Morning."

I hope we're not, but it wouldn't surprise me, either.

im not sure about the UK but here in the US our government has lied about every single thing they were ever asked. our "free" press is not even allowed to make inquiries on our government. so i am a bit suspicious of them. they have proven time and time again they care nothing of people like me, only the rich. they tell us we are under threat by muslims, no muslim has ever threatened me nor anyone i know.

I'm actually wondering the same thing about the recent round of church burnings. It's very possible that white supremacist groups are feeling more bold, but something just isn't adding up.

As for the Fourth of July and terror attacks, I think that something will not happen over Independence Day weekend precisely because it is being talked about.

Lol liberals? Ummm liberals are the only ones FOR having their rights taken away in the name of national security. But I see you still think it's a fight between the left and right and not the government against the people.

Because it's totally probable that some nobodies (armed with only box knives) with no combat training were able to take out U.S. military-trained pilots, have no communication with air traffic controllers for an extended length of time without military interception, and perform a maneuver so technical that it would have most commercial pilots scratching their heads....totally. Oh and to have their IDs magically appear in the wreckage.

Funny how we haven't had an attack on American soil in 14 years. Think about it... Wouldn't you be able to perform a terrorist attack tomorrow? Why is ISIS having such a hard time then?

Indeed. Dr. John H. Mollenkopf (political scientist and director of the Center for Urban Research at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York) listed Santa Monica near the top of his list of the most progressively liberal cities in the U.S.. It certainly shows.

Really, its difficult to believe these people ever attended middle school much less graduated from high school but that's the state of public education in liberal blue zones at present. However, they can fill out government forms to receive benefits (with the help of government social workers, of course).
