I saw the warnings not to eat any shellfish off the BC coast. I will say, I remember in 1971, I was living on the West Coast of Vancouver Island, and there were warnings not to eat the shellfish, because of the Red Tide.

I'm not sure how big that bloom was, but it took a few years to clear up. Perhaps this outbreak is bigger in size?

I remember fishing off Huntington and Newport pier back in the late '50's, red tide was a pretty common occurance, besides it being a Soviet plot :) , fishing was pretty bad during it.

What is interesting, is that these Red Tide blooms have been around for at least 50 years, that some of us have seen.

So is the global warming crew using this stuff to keep people whipped into a frenzy?

I also looked at that map in the OP's link. It seemed to be mainly Vancouver Island. The interior passage is shallow and warm in the summer, and that is where it is the worst.

Here is an interesting link with info about El Nino which is the culprit behind this algae bloom. One part says there were terrible El Ninos in the 19th century. So nothing to do with global warming.

Just a recurring natural phenomena!

Yea red tides are not uncommon, but the way they described this one it seemed unusually large and thick and even growing larger. It might just be the media hype to push their propaganda about global warming, but we'll see if it gets worse or not in due time.

I used to live in Florida for most of my life and did a lot of fishing, even a lot of surf fishing. One day I went to go out surf fishing and when I got over the sand dunes my eyes began to burn real bad and my nose began to run uncontrollably from this red tide that had came in on the beach. The whole shore line was littered with dead fish, as it was a dreadful and smelly sight indeed. But I was amazed how fast it burned my eyes and made my nose run, I had to get out of there immediately! LOL
