Donald Trump: No citizenship for illegal migrants' babies - BBC News

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump says he wants to end the automatic right to citizenship for all children born in the United States.

All children born in the US - even if their parents are illegal immigrants - get citizenship under the constitution.
Other measures he outlined would include raising visa fees to pay for a wall along the Mexican border

Not a bad idea. But how's he going to find, much less deport, all 11 million illegals in the country? -- which is probably more like 30 million, anyway.

That would solve the problem of women who are 9 mos pregnant from scheduling a vacation to our country just to be able give birth in our country.

Wow.. I am totally cool with that!

Hmm... actually, my "first glance" response might need some more thinking-through from me. But I am intrigued!

Some pregnant women jump the southern border, just so they can "land" their birthing babies on our soil, automatic citizenship. Rights and privileges granted. We pay. A million, million, million times over.

Donald Trump unveiled a lot in his comprehensive policy on immigration, but this one kinda had me going "huh?" [All highlighted phrases are my doing]

DonaldJTrump.com: Immigration Reform

Mexico must pay for the wall and, until they do, the United States will, among other things: impound all remittance payments derived from illegal wages; increase fees on all temporary visas issued to Mexican CEOs and diplomats (and if necessary cancel them); increase fees on all border crossing cards – of which we issue about 1 million to Mexican nationals each year (a major source of visa overstays); increase fees on all NAFTA worker visas from Mexico (another major source of overstays); and increase fees at ports of entry to the United States from Mexico [Tariffs and foreign aid cuts are also options].
Question: If we increase the fees on legal immigration and entry, doesn’t that make illegal immigration and entry look more appealing? Without sufficient border security -- because we’re insisting Mexico pay for it -- aren’t we shutting the door of legal immigration and leaving the window of illegal immigration open?

Maybe the border will be significantly more secure after President Trump triples the number of ICE officers. He says he’ll pay for it by eliminating tax-credit payments to illegal immigrants. Still, increasing fees on legal immigration does amount to punishing people who are doing it the right way -- and not-so-subtly implies that Americans don’t want Mexicans coming into the country period.

This "comprehensive, 'well-thought-out' " approach to immigration might not be so much of either, after all. Another example would be that impounding the remittance payments just means they find another way other than Western Union. The use BitCoin, or they move money the way drug dealers do -- through back-channel, third-party shadows that no one knows or can monitor.

Another thing is Mexico's status as a leading trading partner with the U.S. U.S. goods and private services trade with Mexico totaled an estimated $536 billion in 2012 (latest data available). Exports totaled $243 billion; Imports totaled $293 billion. The U.S. goods and services trade deficit with Mexico was $49 billion in 2012. We put tariffs on their goods, you don't think they'll pupt them on ours? It isn't well thought out at all.

He really didn't come up with that great a plan, as it doesn't really do what he says it will do.

We need to make -legal- immigration easier, I agree... I love the wall idea. Which candidate is it that says,"Higher walls, wider gates"? That's my exact philosophy on the subject. Make getting in legally much, much easier.. and then seal up the entire international border completely.

Constitution is worthless if its liberties allowed are abused to the extent that the few are paying for the many. The constitution ain't worth much when you have socialites in the great grand majority.

Time has come to amend it.

It's been working for 6,000 years, why wouldn't it continue to work now?

Enforce any and all laws against hiring illegal immigrates. Hard to do. ACLU and activist prevent a great deal of that from being possible.
You have a good point. But I like the wall. Build high, wide, deep, and far. Increase the fees, there are many folks who will obey the law and pay. Kinda like Disneyland. People want to come to the US, the happiest place on earth, the freest place on earth. There will always be fence jumpers.

Maybe the border will be significantly more secure after President Trump triples the number of ICE officers. He says he’ll pay for it by eliminating tax-credit payments to illegal immigrants. Mexico has been the greatest offender. Americans have paid for it dearly. We will pay for it more terribly in the near future. Who's coming over? Socialist. Government is supposed to take care of me, attitude, mindset.

Again, you make good points. But if there is higher price to be paid on securing our borders than there is on leaving things as they are, I'll pay the higher price.

When architectural plans are drawn up they don't use the first set of plans as there are always revisions so that they meet local building codes and so all the parts and pieces fit together. Trump is drawing up preliminary plans that will no doubt evolve so that the thing can actually be built. Unlike our current looks good on paper president so let's hurry up and build it.

I like what I'm seeing from trump in this preliminary stage. We should see how it evolves and the people the trumpster surrounds himself with.

Royalflush, I don't understand what you are saying here. Can you please clarify?

I'll try to put it together:

"Born is born." No. Not so. That which is born of the flesh is flesh. And that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.

"Are you saying, you take your mother or fathers nationality." I don't know why you would ask that. But I didn't take their nationality. I did inherit their genes.

"that will work well with so many nationalities." Don't understand. But the only time mixed nationalities work together well, is when they not only speak the same language, but also when the majority of them are united through the gospel of peace, of Jesus Christ.

So "Don't worry, he actually will have a plan" is your reaction, essentially?

Oh, I think we already know what kind he "surrounds" himself with --

Trump: I get my military advise watching shows

-- at least, as long as the batteries on his TV remote hold out.

Terrible immigration policy, but not one unexpected. Lol though the fact he even wants to raise visa fees to build his vain wall is somewhat surprising and absurd. For raising that fee would hinder many and slow down the lawful immigration process, thereby encouraging more illegal immigration.

The there is the matter of citizenship and law. It is true he can change this law (if elected), but it should be viewed kingly as an attack on our very identity and status and thus the character of America. If you are born free in the land of America, you are by default recognized as an American citizen and king, that is the law of America.

The federal govt is ignoring the law concerning immigration. If they weren't doing that, then your point would have some merit...but as it is now...it's a free for all. Come one come all... with your tb and dirty bombs.
