As a former Army officer, I wou9ld want someone who had walked in my shoes running my branch of the military. The guy has never been in the service, is nothing more than an administrator, and has little expertise in what the Army needs at this time.
There are an incredible number of good civilian administrators out there -- civilian being the key for branch secretaries. Rarely has anyone ever taken such a post without having a minimum of service in a branch of the military. This is nothing more than an "in your face" to the senior officers who voiced opposition to the repeal of DADT.

The lifestyle is wrong but we are never told to keep people from jobs because of their lifestyle, that is discrimination and the bible is even against that.
Plus I don't approve of the lifestyle but not all gay men are feminine or girly, as I know a handful that are muscularly fit and others well trained in martial arts.

Just another attempt to demoralize the US military.
The US military cannot perform it's job if it is staffed by people who are morally opposed to the expressed values of military service. Good moral character is necessary for men who are going to be called upon to defend this country against hostile enemies.
This makes the uber-liberals and left wing nut jobs happy. This also encourages our enemies. Just look at what happened in Iraq. A military of soldiers who were there only there for the money ran when faced by the enemy.

You're equally clueless. This isn't about a gay man being in combat, or a "life-saving situation" and of course, I've no problem with a gay doctor, lesbian nurse, whatever.
What I object to is blatant political pandering, and that's all this is. Obama's trying to build street cred for the liberal/socialist agenda so the LGBTs will keep voting for Democrats. Try as you might, you can't try to spin it any way but how it is.
